Im in top ten percent and am now trying to decide which college i would like to attend. Stuck between these two... I like how A&M is a college community and i love going to the football games there while UT is located in a very cool area but is more then just college kids...any insights to help me decide....thinking pre-dent

How is UT not a college community?

It all depends on what you want out of college. Aggies are gonna tell you A&M, Longhorns are gonna tell you UT.

I'd go with UT. There is much more to do in Austin than College Station, and most of UT's departments are better than A&M's. If you are into sports, most of UT's athletic teams/programs are better than A&M's as well. You can't go wrong with either college though. Both have good academics, social scenes, and environments.

College Station is basicaly A&M and it mostly made up of college students where as UT is right in the middle of Austin which mixes it with a whole city...thats what i meant when i said not a college community....thnks 4 the reply

Visit both campuses while school is in session. If you haven't made up your mind after that, find what has the better academic program. And while Austin is "not a college community" in the sense that it doesn't have 95% of it's population with direct connections to UT, it is definetely a college town in that it supports UT, there are student discounts, etc.

I was just asking the same question about a year ago.

Yes, like nathan said, go visit the colleges and then decide. See if you like one over the other by actually being there. That is something I wish I have done before I made a decision to attend Texas A&M. Research each unversity, compare the two, and calculate what factors will weigh more heavily than others. Good luck to you.

That doesn't mean that Austin isn't a college community. Most colleges are located in the middle of their respective city, if you wanted a community that is only the college then you should have said that you wanted a small town.

Your personal values are also really important when comparing these 2 schools. They are a lot different from each other even though they're in the same state. Texas is a lot more liberal, and a lot less community oriented. A&M is a lot more conservative, has a more friendly atmosphere.

if you're concerned about UT not being a college community, it is. You can simply stay near campus and its the same thing. everything you need is close to campus.
