A & M verses Virginia Tech for undergrads engineering

Hi ,My daughter has offers from A&M and Virginia Tech for electrical engineering undergrads and is an international student.
Can you advice me on this. thanks

Hi, both schools are VERY similar. I would recommend checking out the TAMU and VT forums for more details on each.

You also may want to take into account how hard it is to get into your selected major (which is a theme that’s been discussed on CC, over the last few weeks)…

At VT:

EE Major

In order to enter this restricted major, students must have:
•Minimum 2.0 overall Virginia Tech GPA
• Minimum grade of C- or better in ENGE 1024 and ENGE 1104
•Minimum grade of D- or better in CHEM 1035, CHEM 1045, ENGL 1105, ENGL 1106, MATH 1205, MATH 1206, MATH 1224, and PHYS 2305.

All ECE courses require a C- or better in prerequisite courses.

Free electives or Area 6 courses offered on a Pass/Fail only basis may be taken under the Pass/Fail grading option.

NOTE: Students that have completed all of the required coursework and have a 3.0 or higher Virginia Tech GPA are guaranteed this major. Change of Major applications are accepted prior to the beginning of fall, spring, and summer at: http://www.enge.vt.edu/undergraduate/undergraduate-changing-majors

At TAMU:

Texas A&M has freshman enter the COE via a “entry-to-a-major (ETAM) process”, after they complete their first two semesters. Students must apply to three majors with the option to select up to five majors. Majors must be ranked in order of preference. The entry-to-a-major process includes automatic admission to the first choice major for students with a 3.5 cumulative GPA after the first two semesters. Otherwise, entry is competitive, and you may end up with your 2nd, 3rd, or even rejected by the COE.

Both are going to be very good for eng’g. It really is a personal choice at this point. TAMU may have better weather if that’s a concern. VT might have easier access to int’l airports (check on that, I’m just guessing).
