I am a current second year petroleum engineering student at the University of Houston, I applied to A&M but did not get into their engineering program but I did get accepted as a health major. Is it worth it to go there and work for a semester or two to try to internally transfer into their petroleum engineering program? I know that A&M is close to, if not the top petro program in the country and it would require a very strong gpa to get in but I don't see myself going there and not making the cut. I just wonder if it is worth going and wasting a year to retake classes and show that I am a worthy candidate as opposed to just finishing out my degree at UofH. Do the job prospects as an A&M grad look that much better? Thanks in advance!

I like your confidence in being able to make the cut. However, you have already missed the cut once. I am not saying you can’t but it seems to be a risk. if for some reason, you aren’t accepted, then you will have used a year and then would have to return to UH. In both scenarios, you are adding an extra year of school and that doesn’t seem worth it to me. At this point, I think your best bet is to continue at UH
