Okay.. so I've been accepted to UD and I've been to their Decision Day on the 22nd. I LOVE IT. I LOVE IT. I LOVE IT. I got this gut feeling that this is it. This is the place for me. But now I am stuck with a major problem. I'm from NY, therefore with the loans/grants/scholarships, I still need to pay about $15,000. At this point, my parents can not afford anything above $1,000-1,500. [I'm serious] So the only other college that I applied too that my parents can afford somewhat is Syracuse because I'm an in-state and my sister attends there. As financially better Syracuse is, for my major UD is well-known and as for Syracuse.. I don't even think their students know this major exists there. [btw it's hospitality management] UD also has the 4+1+1 MBA program which is my whole reason to go to UD right now. I've written an appeal and received $3000 and that's all. So I've talked with this nice lady from financial aid during the decision day and she told me at this point, my best bet is a parent loan. So I've sent in my application for the Federal Direct Plus Loan for $15,000. [i am willing to be in huge debt, or in this case my parents for my education at UD] yes so I've talked to this person on the phone and was told that they won't review this application until MAY and they will notify me whether or not my parents qualify for this loan until JUNE. Now May 1st is the deposit deadline. So I figured if I only send in the deposit to UD then they decide my parents don't qualify for the loan then I'm screwed... so then I decided I'll send deposits to both Syracuse and UD therefore if UD doesn't give my parents that loan then I still have Syracuse to fall back on. Okay so the problem is the academic year housing and dining agreements are BINDING as of June 1st... So if UD is going to send my parents the notification of the loan in JUNE then by that point I'm binded to both SU and DU. WHAT DO I DO THEN?! Am I allowed to back out, of course, writing a very friendly, apologetic letter to one of those schools?

I feel so lost at all of this.. if anyone can give me advice as what to do I will be forever thankful.

BTW, I thank you if you read through all this.. really THANK YOU.

I've called and e-mailed and talked with many different people at the office.. even my college/guidance counselor called and they all gave a very vague.. not so helpful advice.. I'm not sure what to do because putting deposits in two colleges is a very risky move... Ughhh My college counselor and I are calling people everywhere and trying to find ways so I can afford to go to UD..

Thank you Wealth for taking the time to read my problem and leave a reply. Really appreciated! Btw are you a student at UD?

How can Syracuse possibly be cheaper than U Del? It is not a state school, is it? Isn't their tuition like $29K vs. U Del at $17K out of state?

By the way, my opinion: think long and hard before you take out $60K in loans for a hospitality degree at U Del. If Syracuse really is a LOT cheaper you need to go look at that school again. That is just a ridiculous amount of debt for you. Kids love it there (and they love U Del too).

Syracuse is a private university so yes it is much more expensive than UD. My estimated one year cost at SU is about $43,000 while UD is almost $28,000.

Thank you Wealth, I will be calling them yet again tomorrow and this time I will ask if I can get any extension of some sort

And yes weenie I have been thinking and thinking and probably stressing more than I should be.. I love SU, I've been up there many times due to my sister but the thing that pulls me to UD is their program and the way it's all set up with the mba degree...

Thanks so much you guys!! [btw I realized I should have posted this in the financial aid section?! had no idea since I'm new here]

I'm still confused how SU is a better deal financially. Your sister attends college now so when you start as a freshmen your sister's EFC should be greatly reduced. It's not quite a buy one get one free but is sure does help. So your parents are paying 43,000 for your sister but can only pay 1000-1500 for you? Maybe if you shared your financial packages from each school, posters could be more objective and helpful. I feel as though some pieces are missing.

My sister is currently a sophomore at Syracuse. My parents do not pay $43,000 for her tuition right now. My sister got A LOT of scholarship money because she was just super duper smart. When she was an entering freshman, tuition then was about $36,000 and most of the she got free money due to scholarships/grants...

I really have no idea what to do.. I think at the end I might end up somewhere totally unexpected..
