Hello, I have a question regarding both TAU and Berkeley’s forms, but I guess it applies more to Berkeley since they want you to list your classes for your prereqs.
I’m waitlisted for a prereq class in the spring, and since Spring doesn’t start til the last week of February for us, I won’t know til then if I can actually get the class or not (I’ll usually know by the first day of class when the professor adds people off the waitlist). Should I still list it on Berkeley’s major prereq form?
Follow up question, say I don’t get into the class but I did list it in TAU/myBerkeleyApp. I’d have to email the schools that I didn’t get into the class right?
RE: TAU, I would put in as PL for now and update when you find out, as TAU can be updated through March. But you will have to notify each UC as they might not look. (is this the English course??)
RE: Berkeley, that is a good question. I think for the best answer you should email Berkeley.
Bearly, I just thought of another problem - some of the UCs want the English and math requirements completed by this last fall. I think in TAU you should mention the ongoing and unresolved obstacles you have faced regarding this issue, and make sure you send that in every UC update.
@lindyk8 oh no, it’s Discrete Mathematics (which I thought wasn’t going to be offered at my CC, but they opened up one class [and it got filled in the first day]). Luckily, assist says it’s not required for admission to Berkeley. I just wanted to take it to strengthen my chances as much as possible, but I guess I should be grateful it’s not an essential/required prerequisite at least.
I just wanted to ask because my chances are still 50/50, but like I said I suppose it doesn’t hurt to email them if I don’t get it, so at least they know I tried to get into it but didn’t (I was also afraid I’d look lazy/not initiative for not taking DM when my CC did in fact have an equivalent course for it and it was being offered in the spring).
And on the English thing, yeah I want to clarify that I’m taking it specifically for IGETC and not the UC English requirement–I already did two quarters of English at UC, which should count (cause they just want a UC-transferable course in English, and I presume UC courses themselves are UC-transferable). I’m afraid they will see my taking of my CC’s English course as my UC-transferable English requirement, which was supposed to be doe by fall, and that would definitely put my application at risk
That whole English situation is totally ludicrous. Berkeley makes you fill out those forms, so I guess putting the right courses up there in the IGETC and required sections should let them know. You have a really confusing case…
I guess the good news is (which is bad news morphing to good), if you don’t get in, I think you have a great appeal…
@lindk8 thanks for the concern. I guess that’s one silver lining–my being rejected on a technically rather than application strength. And even if it was the latter (or maybe a combination of both), it would lead to their opening up my application and re-reviewing because of the technicality…but hopefully it doesn’t come to that
I think I might just write on the TAU (having updated spring schedule with CC English), “I completed the UC-transferable English requirement with my freshman English courses _. I an planning to take my community college’s English course to finish my IGETC certification.” or something alone those lines. I want to be as clear as possible, but also not much room so concise as well
Eh, this whole thing is like I got the short end of the stick, having to retake English (one counting for UC requirement, another for IGETC). And in the end, really it is all for one school… Berkeley since they require breadth completion for L&S. Maybe it might have been easier if I stayed and did UC to UC transfer (and did UC reciprocity) or if I were just smart enough to start at CC 2 years ago. I just hope this all works out in the end haha
