You guys do NOT need to panic. If you are good, then you are in. If you are bad, then you are out. Receiving your notification on October or on 12/15 is the same thing.

You'll have 99% admit possibility if your GPA fails into those categories:

LAS (Above 3.2)
College of Business (Above 3.6)
Engineering (3.7)

Due to affirmative action, if you are in certain group of minority, lower your GPA criteria by 0.2. For example, say if you are an African American and you are applying to College of Business, your bottom line GPA is 3.4.

I am sorry for those people who are not in this reach, but this is the fact. I've gone through all this and it's just not as complicated as you are thinking.

But I do believe UofI is heightening its admission criteria as you can tell they add extra some-what difficult course as their requirements (Such as Calculus II).

UIUC does NOT rely on GPA that much. It cares far more about class rank and test scores. In fact, if your school does not rank, UIUC will use your GPA to estimate your class rank and use that instead of your GPA!

Sorry..but I will have to disagree. UIUC's admission policy is complete numerical bunk. Even my son with WAY over a 3.6 GPA and a 29 ACT has like no chance for the business school. There is no rhyme or reason to it. Some of it is geography, too. As a state school, UIUC needs to admit a diverse population from all its areas. They just can't only accept highly qualified students from the wealthier Chicago suburbs.

"You'll have 99% admit possibility if your GPA fails into those categories"

haha what's that about? did you find this somewhere? Or is that just your way of saying you're pretty sure but not so completely sure that you're willing to go with the whole 100%?

I've never heard that before. To say that would disregard the fact that UIUC uses other criteria in determining admission. Gshine is right, at least that's what i've heard. In fact, i was pretty sure it went Rank, ACT score, GPA. Not to mention the essays...they don't just include that part to humor you.

I'd align with your "good you're in, bad you're out" thing in a way. If you feel pretty confident in your application i wouldn't spend your time stressing. If you feel like it would take a miracle to get in, then you really have very little chance.

If you're going to be saying stuff like this that a lot of us are finding false or unsubstantiated then give us a link or a source to prove it. I've already questioned the credibility of 2 of your 6 posts, as have some others. The people who read these boards are looking for anything to cling to, i know i was. The least you can do is make sure your information is correct and not just go by your gut. You don't want to give false hope or crush somone's dream. I know you're trying to make people feel at ease, but it would really suck to tell people it's as simple as GPA and then watch them get rejected because of their ACT score, class rank, or essay.

i'm "guarding" the posters from hunches that i (and at least 2 others) don't feel to be completely accurate, cause i know if i was back in their position i'd be ****ed about essentially being told I didn't have to worry about my ACT score or rank or essays when my GPA was high.

According to what you have said I should have been in both times I applied to this school. The first time my GPA was right in the middle for admission. My ACT was low but not completely out of range for back in 2002-3, and my rank was poor, barely top 25%. I wrote some ****ty essays too. I was denied.

Second time was a transfer. My GPA was above the suggested 3.0 (3.4). My classes were all set to transfer because I called them and they told me they use the same system to check that as i had been using. I wrote my essays, they didn't properly show my passion for my major, and I got denied again.

I eventually got in on appeal, but if i hadnt bothered with that I obviously wouldnt have gotten in. Yes, most students get into U of I who apply, as 75% from your post and princetonreview would demonstrate. BUT a lot of universities don't publish criteria.

I shouldn't have to guard the university's reputation, i think enough people know it to be a wonderful institution. I just don't feel it's as simple as you say it is.

i'll have to agree w/ barret (as always). yes there are some programs that have something called auto admit where if you have a minimum GPA and ACT, you are in. but much tougher ones like business, fine arts, engineering, and well regarded programs are going to look more deeper into your application. they want a well rounded person not someone who simply has the minimum and nothing else to show for.
If you had applied last year for business, GPA played a lot less into admissions than it should have. people with 4.1 and so on were being rejected while people with much lower were being accepted. grades are not everything. business for example would be looking for leadership and potential.

then do you mind asking her what the heck happened last year with all the deferred business decisions and how they lost my file and said it was my fault...
