"A Message from Cal Poly's President"

Did anyone else get this email?

"Ryan:

Thank you for indicating your plans to attend Cal Poly for the 2013 Fall Quarter!

Cal Poly’s President, Jeffrey D. Armstrong, would like to welcome you to the Cal Poly family. Please link to his video by clicking here.

Have an exceptional year!

The Cal Poly Admissions Office"

I’m just worried because I never committed to Cal Poly. I’m still waiting on all my other decisions and I was wondering if this email went out to everyone accepted at Cal Poly or if I should contact the admissions office to get this fixed. Any help is appreciated!

This morning my DS received an email from CalPoly saying congrats on your intent to attend CalPoly. He did no such thing! Who would at this early stage of the game? It was a message from the President in a video and the message said “Thank you for indicating your plans to attend Cal Poly for the 2013 Fall Quarter!”

Since he did not click the link to accept admission, we are wondering if this is a mistake from Cal Poly or some sort of hoax since they have a phishing warning on the log in to mycalpoly page. Did any of you get this email?

We emailed them back right away to straighten it out but it sure is disconcerting. He still has the tab under admissions to accept the offer and it doesn’t indicate anywhere on his mycalpoly that he has indicated his intent to attend. As much as he liked CalPoly, he won’t be going unless he wins the scholarship they just sent him the link to apply for.

Standard welcome letter to those accepted. Nothing more.

I received this message too and literally jumped out of bed. Since it happened at 7:15 AM and unless I developed a sleep walk, I then calmed myself feeling that I couldn’t have clicked accept.

My son got this message, too. He has not accepted admission, either. Scared me to death, too. If you look at the CalPoly portal, you will see that you are still being asked to accept/decline on the to do list.

This is the second erroneous letter my son has received from colleges this week. The other gave parking directions for interviewing for a very prestigious scholarship. That email was followed by a retraction- as he had never been informed he was a candidate for the award!

I got this too and have not committed. For some reason my password to login the portal is not working, would it be safe to email them to remind them i have not committed yet?

I got it as well. I woke up, looked at it and was all like “what?” Then I went back to sleep :D

I had the same reaction as you! Hahaha. I got all nervous because I never accepted nor declined the offer of admission either. Now I feel stupid for emailing them to clarify…

Received the exact same email this morning. I freaked out as well since I knew I never committed to anything. Don’t worry, it’s just another “congrats” type email.

It was the first email from Cal Poly acknowledging my acceptance 17 days ago lol (besides the Outreach Scholarship thing)…
