I just have a quick question about writing the Penn essay. Is it ok to just say Penn when refering to the university? Or do you have to be formal all the time and say the full title University of Pennsylvania. I just find it gets kind of redundant.

I wrote Penn and it worked out ok for me

I know it gets redundant, but find ways around it. You should try to say the whole name though.

no I definitely would say putting "Penn" is great. Just don't write "UPenn." (and I agree, writing Penn worked out just great for me. I only said "The University of Pennsylvania" once in my Why Penn (which had reduced margins, with 11 point TNR font)

I used the full name and penn. It gets redundant if you use one all throughout. I also used the university, the college, and stuff like that.

I said Penn several times in my essay. It will not hurt you.

rawr is right, they dont seem to like "upenn"
