A Mistake on a Submitted Essay!!

I am horrified! I caught two typos in my essay which was already submitted to several colleges. Should I resubmit acknowledging my mistake?

From what I know every Essay you submit says you may not re-submit the essay and you should carefully read it over.

Sorry.

Admissions officers read thousands of essays. They aren’t likely to notice typos. Look up the old thread about the guy who accidentally put “clam fart” into his essay, and still got into colleges.

Sorry, I disagree with NorthStarMom. I don’t think 2 minor typos will necessarily hurt your chances for admission, but I think the admissions officers will notice it; even if they read many essays a day, they are supposed to look for accuracy in the mechanics of the essay as well. Unless the rest of your essay is really terribly written though, it probably won’t be a problem. But you really should have proofread more carefully.

No, you can’t resubmit. However, I do recall last year one kid calling up and saying he accidentally attached the draft of his final essay and they let him resubmit. My head says that probably the best thing to do is just let it go and make the corrections for applciations going forward. But depending on what the typos were, my gut tells me that the worst they can say is no if you should decide to call them up and ask about resubmitting. Truth is, the reading season has barely just begun… it’s certainly not the same as making that same call in January. Just my opinion. But I would most likely defer to the GC at the HS for more accurate advice.

You can’t resubmit. Read more carefully next time.
