A model's chance at Harvard?

Hah. Knew that would make you look. I’m an actress/model/homeschooled/ballerina/very unusual girl, and I KNOW THIS IS LONG but if anyone could help give me an idea of where I stand, I would LOVE it~~

I’m currently a freshman at the University of Wisconsin. I’m planning on applying as a transfer to Harvard because Wisco doesn’t have my intended majors (Asian American studies or Ethnic Studies), which Harvard has, and also b/c Harvard’s “special concentration” would allow me to combine those two into one major. Here are my stats:

-Bi-racial girl: Asian/German/Danish
-fluent in Japanese
-competant in Russian
-competant in French
-competant in Korean
-competant in Danish
-SAT 1400 (will take again in Jan)
-SAT II’s: Japanese 710, English Lit 710, English Comp 700 (2 years old, but won’t take again)

-Homeschooled my entire life, straight A’s, taught by my dad, a Phd professor at Wisconsin. B/c I’ve been homeschooled there really is no “concrete” way of judging these classes…but I’ll list them anyways:

sigh I know its alot to slog through. Chances please? You have NO idea how much it would be appreciated…

ummm wow, you've lived a very interesting life. i have no idea of your chances, but you're certainly the interesting type of person that Harvard wants.

I think you have a great chance. Really focus on the uniqueness of your life and etc. in your essays and short answer. You probably want to send some supplemental stuff (plays you have written, photos).

you were in a movie with bernie mac ? sweet

there's no "a" in "competent."

lol, I was trying not to comment on that. :P

When you say "English comp," do you mean the SAT II writing? Because, if not, you need to take that one, I think.

your ECs are amazing..i'm sure even harvard will be impressed. do you leave ANY free time for yourself? i'd probably bet my left nut that you get in unless you have some serious red flags somewhere

This thread is worthless without pics :)

but she can't reveal her identity, i think

or shouldn't, rather.

you guys are missing the point that she is a transfer sstudent
schools like harvard only admit a handful of transfers a year, and on top of that they only admit students whom they feel fill a "hole' in a particular class
im not trying to say you wont get in, but it is MUCH more difficult to get in as a transfer as opposed to a high school applicant. sorry to be a troll, but i dont want to let the OP get false hope

yeah, don't they accept like 4% transfers? very slim chances for anyone.

oh, that sucks then

thanks for the comments guys! haha people slog through all that text mess only to comment on my spelling errors. :P My bad. :)

Actually Harvard accepted about 100 out of a thousand transfers last year, slightly less of a percent than RD if i'm not mistaken...and attrition has been declining slightly (according to my admissions contact) so transfer admission rates will be about identical to those of RD this year. Definately not a suck factor. Or maybe it is...considering it's still like 11% or so... glass half full/half empty I s'pose.

And sunglasses, the "English Comp" SATII is the writing.

and haithman, pics were not offered not because of an identity issue, but because i thought to do so would be rather egotistical, not to mention needless, as i'm asking to be evaluated on my chances at harvard as an intellectual, rather than an aesthetic. ;)

although to be honest, i really don't think i'm anything special. :)

yea, I forgot to comment on your chances. There's certainly nothing lacking in your app that would prevent you from being accepted, and you seem really outstanding in all your activities. The SAT is slightly low, but since you're going to retake it that should be fine.

Good luck!

You're "fluent" but only pulled off a 710 on the Japanese SAT II? I wonder what you mean by "competent" then.

Anyway, how good are you at crew? If you're good and they're looking for a replacement, you'll probably get in.

thanks much asterstar

points above HH05, I stated that my SAT II scores are 2 years old. I lived/worked/went to school in Japan for over a year since taking the Japanese test, and in all modestly, I believe I picked up a thing or two language wise while doing so. That score reflects where I was in HIGH SCHOOL--now I speak it like second nature, can read over 2500 characters, and even dream in it. That's what I mean by fluent. Competent means I can read, write and speak the language comfortably, but by no means like a native. shrugs But that's just my definition.

And I'm a coxswain in crew (too light to be in a boat)! So whether or not I'm "good" I suppose comes down to whether or not people think my yelling and bellowing spurs people on to speedy splits and wins. But I do wield a mean megaphone.

dude. i know this girl. she is hot as heck. :D

i second haithman's eloquent statement that visual imagery is lacking. t'would not be egotistical.
