I'm only about half a year away from submitting an application to UF, my dream school, and with every passing day I grow increasingly worried and nervous. I look at my stats and compare them to others on this site and elsewhere that have made it and see that what I have, while good, doesn't come close. I think I did rather well in my junior year, but my freshman year feels like an anchor holding me back, tons of B's. So, I 'm hoping you guys can give an honest opinion of how I would hold up in admissions and my likelihood of getting in.

So, what I want to know
Do I have a good chance to get in?
Will the fact that every year I improved mean anything?
And what else can I do to get in?
What do have going for me? and what's hurting me?
and other than UF, what schools should I apply to?

Thanks in advance, I really appreciate any help.

You are in a good position to get in... I know plenty of people with similar resumes who have been accepted. How did you do on those APs you've taken? And are you sure you're taking calc next year? Many of my friends regreted that choice

I'd say you have a very decent chance of getting in, judging from the stats of people I know personally who got in this year. Your course load is quite rigorous and your SATs are very competitive for UF. You should recalculate your weighted GPA the way UF does though. They use a 4.0 scale with 0.5 extra for honors and 1.0 extra for AP, and they only factor in your academic classes (math, science, english, foreign language, social science).

edit: forgot to mention that you should work hard to write a great essay. A top notch essay can really make up for another part of your application if you're lacking in some area.

why are you waiting to submit your app. isn't is available on line now? i recall from last year that the housing priority system is based upon when you apply. as soon as you apply, I believe yiou get a housing priority number.

not sure if it is the same this year, but you should check it out. UF is a great school, your stats look solid.

good luck!

I think you are in good shape. I would recommend taking the SAT again and trying to score at least 10 more points so you can get invited to the Honors Program if your UF qualifies.

"I'm only about half a year away from submitting an application to UF, my dream school, and with every passing day I grow increasingly worried and nervous."

That is application suicide. UF started accepting application on July 1 and the
application period only runs until November 1.

How much of the application has to be in to get the ball rolling?

Apply ASAP!!!!!

Thanks for the input, guys. I feel a bit better now, and, yeah, I'm gonna put in my app real soon.

By the way my UF GPA: 4.055

Two questions:

Will the fact that I made huge improvements from my freshman year to my junior year make any difference?

And what universities should be my safeties, matches, and reaches?

Once again, thanks in advance.

I would qualify UF as a match, but since you say it is your dream school, I guess we are going down from there. Are you from Florida? If so, the other state universities will probably be most of your matches and safeties. FSU and UCF would probably be your lower matches, and something like FIU can be your safety. UM can be another match on par with UF. You can research the rest of the state universities if you feel like they appeal to you for whatever reason (they are closer to home or you like NCF's approach to things or something else). If you want reaches higher than your dream school, perhaps an ivy like Cornell or University of Pennsylvania might be good for you. It would help to know what subject and major you are interested in.

You still have a decent chance but your UF GPA is a 3.8 (based upon the grades that you listed on this thread).

No, his UF gpa is about exactly a 4.0.

My bad...his UF Gpa is exactly a 4.0.
