A new plan of attack

I've come up with a new application strategy, and I was wondering if I'd be well advised to use it. I'm sending off summer apps to Ohio State, Pitt and LSU, and I am figuring (if I submit my transcript and SAT Scores by mid September) that I will hear back from them by November/Decemberish. In September I plan to submit my Reach Apps (Washington, Texas, Wisconsin), and in November the UC app.

I was wondering if I'd be well advised to base my one to three other apps on what I hear from Pitt and OSU, rather than applying ASAP.

For Example if I get into Pitt and Ohio State, I might apply to one or two of the following: UCLA, Michigan, New College of Florida, or Minnesota

If I get rejected at both I'd look at schools like FSU and Rutgers (which I was planning on applying to anyways) as well as Michigan State, Puget Sound, UMass and maybe a mid level UC.

If I get wait listed without getting accepted I consider schools like Colorado, UCSB, FSU and Rutgers.

Is this a well advised move or should I stick with the initial plan of applying to FSU and Rutgers ASAP?

(and yes I am aware out of state schools are expensive)

If it helps GPA: UW 3.48 (W 3.80), SAT 1820 (M 670 CR 560 W 590) and my EC's are very good, but not mind blowing.

will you have time to do them later?

As long as I get Pitt and OSU back by November/December I should be OK on Deadlines (not UCLA, UCSB or any other UC’s because the deadline in 11/30). As long as that assumption is correct I should be good with deadlines, the question is, is it sacraficing my shot?

I’d suggest you apply now (as soon as applications are accepted - usually around 8/1) for Florida State as well. You are not a lock for FSU, so give yourself every chance.

So does this Idea go out the window then?

I’d suggest applying early to all schools that interest you. This would give you the best shot at admission. Consider, for FSU, summer session too.
