A Plethora of Questions

Rugs are a nice homey kind of thing, and wal-mart back to school usually has sizable ones for really low prices. A fridge is handy, but unnecessary, and I wouldn’t bother with a microwave at all. cleaning supplies wise, the school does provide them, but they tend to deposit more than they pick up. My roommate and I split the cost of a broom and dustpan, we got so ****ed. It just depends on how OCD you are about cleanliness. And if you’ve got dishes, dish soap is useful because it runs out in the dorm kitchens REALLY fast and may not be replaced. And this has been mentioned before, but there’s a really big sale in the basement of Main on the first day of NSO. DO NOT bring hangers; there are a billion there for free. They also have some used furniture and a lot of used textbooks, so you may get lucky and find something else useful. I got a language text for 2$!

Is there a limit on the amount of credits we can take per semester?

18 is generally the limit. You can request to go over, up to 20 I think, that but it will cost you and I don’t think that’s something you’d want to do (it’s doable if you don’t have a job/do a sport I just wouldn’t recommend it).

The credit limit works differently with studio-courses like dance and music and I have no idea how but I think it’s possible to have up to 22 credits if some of them are studio classes. Not sure.

Cool. Are we allowed to sit-in/ unofficially take some classes? Like I want to take some extra gym classes (like beginning weight lifting, beginning swimming) but it would put my credits over the limit. If there’s space, do you think any gym teacher would have a problem with me coming to classes?

Most likely no. Many professors are cool with audits if there is space available. I’ve never taken a gym class but I think if there is space available the instructor’s will probably okay with you just being there for fun.

But for the sake of other students and the professor, if you sit in on a class, show up regularly and not just as you please as the attendance won’t matter for grades. But as far as I understand people generally don’t show up too regularly for gym classes anyway.

How much SAT score is needed for Eastern European student to get in Grineell with full-ride scholasrhip? Family income is 8000$ per year.

Regarding the credit limit and music classes–the music lessons, for which you will be charged extra, do not count toward your 18 credit limit. So you can take 18 credits plus 2 credits of music and it would cost you the same as 14 credits plus 2 credits of music.
