a post for all of us Early Decisions

hmm...a kid from my class found out he got in today to CAS. The swim coach told him and he gets a free ride since his dad is a doctor at the hospital.

yeah 3 kids from a school near me found out they were in. they're guidance counselor had an 'in' with one of the admission reps. i don't think their admission chances were improved, but they did find out yesterday.

and their stats were not spectacular.

waaiiiiting some more...

ahh the waits killin me too!! i cant believe people found out already!!

legionaire...are u lookin to play tennis for NYU?

wow alexkay673, that's so early to hear! Do you know what schools they got into? Does the fact that they had connections through their counselor with the admissions have anything to do with them finding out so early???

my friend told me this, her and one of the kids work at AF together. she said that his guidance counselor knew an admissions counselor which makes me think perhaps the gc put in a friendly 'hi how are you, did my kids get in' call. but then again i am not sure. the school was a small private jewish school, where six kids applied and three got in, so i guess they just told them earlier, being so many applied from a tiny school. i really don't think the counselor knowing NYU helped their admissions at all, being three did get rejected, and it's a very good school.

i don't know which schools any of them got in, but believe me i am working on it hah. the guy that works with my friend only had a 1280 SAT and i wanna say 3.7 UW GPA and he wasn't applying for anything in particular which is making me think either CAS or GSP.

ssarkar: No, I don't want to play tennis for NYU. I don't think I am good enough, never called their coach. Did you also apply to Stern?

yes i did....im so anxious to find out!

Ssarkar: What are your stats like?

Who else applied to Stern ED? Post up your stats.

ED to Stern

female, indian
-sat 1330
-school doesnt rank
-gpa 94/100
-most difficult courseloud, all APs or Honors

extracurriculars:
-captain, 1st singles tennis (4 yrs varsity)
- varsity lacrossse
-pres, FBLA
-pres, Red Cross
-VP, Peer Leadership
-project manager, NYLF on tech
-nhs, model un, key club and others
-lots of community service and tutoring

should have strong recs and essays

ive also been in touch with the coach, but no guarantees

ssarkar maybe you should e-mail him considering that most athletes r finding out now.

i talked to him last night and a decision should be in early next week, but technically athletes are supposed to find out officially by mail rather than from the coach

oh, okay didn't know that. kids from my school are finding out through coaches.

Ssarkar: I think you have a better chance of getting into Stern than me. I don't know if they considered my new sat score- 1330 in their admission process. I just sent them the score a week ago. Hopefully, they take it into account. Otherwise, I had a highest m+c of 1270 which is not good enough for Stern.

yea, i asked him before the applying process began and he said that we were supposed to wait for the official notification....but i guess not all sports follow that

Ssarkar" Did you have to try out for tennis? Or you just told him that you were interested? Are you ranked?

well good luck...u seem to be very well rounded

its hard to figure stern out...i know people that attend with SATs in the low 1300s but their average is 1423

i dont play tournaments, but i did send in a video

I know people w/ 1250's 1270's 12890's...I'm in that range so i'm like no chance unless lucky :...only thing going for me are my EC's so hopefully they review the whole app and not just scores like some people say they do. anyway you 2 are prolly getting in so gl and make the best of it. i'm pretty sure I'm receiving the thin envelope, but keeping a lil fire burning of hope.

supposedly my school is good w/ them and a kid got in last yr w/ a 1280 and 3.7 UW (he didn't take a hard curriculum either) - its really random - the people who say u need a 1400+ to get into Stern are right in a sense but there are those who are in the 1200's that Stern saw something in them apart from their test scores...so anything can happen.

parikhs, wut are ur stats?

nyu does say that they consider the application as a whole, which i think should benefit all of us
