A preemptive chance.

Thanks guys!
Fisher is my definite top choice. I think starting a business is something fun that I’ll try. I’m pretty happy with UW, which has a good CS program, and (not really) cheap tuition. I’ll probably apply to Berkeley and Chicago - just don’t want to do too many apps.

Do you have any hook?
Is your HS feeder school to some top colleges such as Stanford or Princeton?

If not, apply to many top colleges.

Let me give you some real examples. These are all Asian males (class of HS 2011) without any hook.

Friend 1: SAT 2400, SAT II 800-790-(800 or high 700s), UWGPA 4.0, National Level Recognition
Your ECs and awards << Friend 1 ECs and awards (because of the national recognition)
Your Stat <Friend 1 Stat

Friend 2: SAT 2350+, ACT 36, SAT II 800-790 (or 780)-(800 or high 700s), UWGPA 4.0
Your ECs and awards = Friend 2 ECs and awards
Your Stat < Friend 2 Stat

Friend 3: SAT 2350+, SAT II 800-800-800, UWGPA 4.0
Your ECs and awards = Friend 3 ECs and awards
Your Stat < Friend 3 Stat

20more: SAT 2380, SAT II 800-800-780, ACT 35, UWGPA 3.96
Your ECs and awards < 20more ECs and awards
Your Stat < 20more Stat

Result:
No acceptance from Stanford, Penn, Columbia, Princeton and MIT (some of us did not apply to Penn or Columbia)
Two got accepted from Chicago
Three got accepted from NW
One applied to UCB and got accepted

You still have time. Do well on SAT II tests and try something national if you can.
Also, texaspg (post 7) gave you an excellent advice.

Almost nobody has these kind of schools as matches

Penn Fisher M&T (Wharton 2nd) - low reach
Stanford M&E - high reach
Princeton ORFE - high reach
NYU BPE - match
Columbia - low reach
Northwestern - match
MIT - high reach
UW - safety

Penn Fisher M&T (Wharton 2nd)-target
Stanford M&E-Reach
Princeton ORFE-Reach
NYU BPE-Safety
Columbia-Reach
Northwestern-target
MIT-Reach
UW - Safety

good luck! chance me back please:

Penn Fisher - HIGH reach (super duper super duper super super super selective- only 45 kids in the world)
Wharton - reach
Stanford M&E - reach
Princeton ORFE - high reach
NYU BPE - highish match
Columbia - lowish reach
Northwestern - high match
MIT? - high reach
UW - Safety

The ignorance of posters on this board is astounding. Whoever called Jerome Fisher a “target” seriously needs to do some research on top schools and programs.

Your stats qualify you for every school on your list, but their admissions are virtually crapshoots - combinations of perceived financials tatus, essays, extracurriculars, admission officer subjectivity, etc. Considering that Fisher is your top choice, you should definitely apply ED and really focus your “why Fisher” essay on what you’ve done in high school, your interests, what you want to do in the future, and why it’s right for Fisher. I got in ED without any business or engineering extracurriculars, so I’m left to assume that doing my essay in that manner worked for me.

Penn M&T - high reach; it’s M&T
Penn Wharton - reach; it’s Wharton
Stanford M&E - no idea what this is to be honest, but high reach; it’s Stanford
Princeton ORFE - high reach; it’s Princeton
NYU BPE - no idea what this is, but I’m going to venture a guess that you’ll get in
Columbia - high reach; Columbia has gotten ridiculously hard to get into, especially for The College
Northwestern - low reach
MIT - high reach; it’s MIT
UW - safety

For what it’s worth, you don’t have to apply separately to ORFE at Princeton; once you’re in, you can major in anything you want (with the exception of Woody Woodrow, which you must apply to).

Best of luck!

@Keasbey Nights yeah I was like YOU THINK M&T IS A TARGET?!? I know a kid in our school who just got in, and that was because he “embellished” (coughliedcough) like a ■■■■ AND he got semifinalist for Intel and SIEMENS and was a Cocacola Scholar!

A kid from my school applied ED to M&T and got in after exaggerating his accomplishments. He wasn’t even that smart and didn’t have any impressive ECs let alone anything business related/chem related.

@dblazer If you didn’t live in PA, I’d think we went to the school and were talking about the same person. lol :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: …except for this kid didn’t apply ED. And now won’t tell anyone where he’s going so that people won’t call up the school and report him for lying.
