Alright. I just found out from my language coordinator that I wouldn't be able to take French honors..at all. Even if I we're to get straight A+'s the whole year in regular French for (9th grade) the whole year he still wouldn't give it to me because the French honor students cover 150% and the regular students only cover 100%. This is getting me extremely worried because I now feel I will never ever get into a Ivy League school because of this.

This is my schedule:

Math 10 Honors

English 9 Honors

GeneralPhysEd

Earth Science (non-honors)

AP World History

Design And Drawing (DDP - Design and Drawing for Producton)

Computer Programming C++

Computer Multimedia

French 2 (non-honors)

As you can see I am not taking science honors but that isn't something to worry about because I will eventually catch up with my honors peers by 12th grade by going, ES -> Bio H -> Chem H -> Physics H + AP's and maybe an AP with Chem H.

I plan to apply to HYP and Columbia definitely (sis goes there) but I feel that is only something that can happen in a dream now. I know I will get straight A+'s for every class and hopefully nothing under a B+ but they might think he is only getting that A+ in French because it is only regular French. If I don't take the French honors then (not saying I dont want to take it, its just that i cant) technically I am not taking my schools most rigorous courseload.

Am I really doomed? And please for the sake of keeping me sane since school starts tomorrow, please don't tell me to click the X on the top-right corner and come back to this site in 2 years and telling me that you have SAT's to worry about and EC and stuff..I know this already. Can someone just tell me if anyone else has been in this position and got into Ivy league schools even without being in ANY honors language throughout high school? And also please dont tell me Ivy's arent the only thing because i know this but it just makes me feel better that i am qualified to be in an Ivy school.

i honestly feel like i am in some deep $h!t now. thanks for anyone willing to help me with at least little or nothing critisism.

I'm certain you'll be fine. RELAX. Should you choose to continue taking French language courses throughout your academic career, you haven't a problem. Do well in this upcoming school year, and continue to pursue language.

Sure honors courses are weighed differently, but you've got to consider the additional weight of a full four years of language, and high test scores--basically saying, you shouldn't be out of the running yet.

Technically, you've a fully picture to create if you want to get into selective colleges. Remember extra-curricular activities, work experience, internships, and anything else that molds characters.

If you truly are a strong candidate, then this won't affect you....but if you are continually bothered by this, then petition a little harder to get into the honors course (bring a parent, lol, that tends to get things done).

I don't go to an Ivy League school, but I am almost certain that the absence of a honors language class in your overall transcript will hardly affect your chances of getting into an Ivy League.

It seems like you're taking plenty of honors courses, so if you do as well as you say you will, you're fine.

If you still feel that your transcript doesn't reflect your school's most rigorous courseload, I recommend taking some high level French courses at a local community college.

Thanks for your replys. I appreciate them tremendously! Unfortunetly I sitll feel unconvinced because I feel that the conversation when they see my transcript will play out like this:

Adcom: Hey, this boy..he hasn't taken any french honors.

Adcom: lets just throw the paper away. if he didnt take a rigorous courload then this kid isnt worth having in this prestegious school.

Thanks andreaaaaaa for you input. That's just freshman year. I am denied taking French honors for the rest of my high school career. My language coordinator really is a jerk.

I hope your right. If I get denied out of every Ivy with amazing grades (not saying I am assume that I will get all 100;s but you never know) at least ill know why even with the dedication to EC's and such.

Dude, not taking Honors French won't hurt your or help you. Stop worrying about something so pointless. Relax. You're a ninth grader. You have three years to start worrying. It's our turn to worry, given that the '08 people are seniors, and I am one of them. Try to have fun and develop a passion for something, instead of worrying about your grades and all so much. Of course, you shouldn't let them slip, but going out and doing something that you like to do will help you more in the admissions process than taking Honors French. Chances are, they won't really care if you took it to begin with.

College adcoms aren't going OMG NO HNRS LANGUAGE J00 ARE T3H PWNZ0REDZOrS BBQLICIOUS. It's just something that you gotta make up. Nothing you can do about it now. Chill and work hard.

Yeah, I did that a looong time ago back in May when I created this account. I found out over the Summer that it doesn't count as legacy. And no, my parents didn't go to college in the US so no legacy from them either. I was forced to go there like every weekend to greet my sister since we lived only 45 minutes away. As time wen't by I really liked the place so I will most likely apply there ED. I need to change the stats profile sometime soon. Too lazy aha

And to enderkin: Thanks for the laugh! It actually did cheer me up a bit.

just because you dont take french honors has NOTHING to do with getting into ivies..i know plenty of students who have gotten into ivies with merely 2 honors courses-

plus my school allows anyone to go into any level course they want as long as they take the entrance exam (they dont need to pass it)

Saxsky, I know people who are in HYP with no honors classes at all. Their schools simply didn't offer them. They excelled anyway.

I think you need a sport or a job, because it seems you are obsessing WAY too early in you high school career. If you don't chill out, you'll have no one at your lunch table, or everyone will make fun of you. Never fun. R E L A X

Honestly I don't have any free time to get a job and sport. I do play tennis every Thursday and I plan on trying out for the school tennis team but that is all the way in Spring. I am starting to go in a almost learning center type of thing where they will teach me all of Math B (which is what I am learning in 9th) in 10 weeks as well as practicing for the PSAT Verbal and Math and another course thta will help improvise my writing/essay skills.

But yeah, your right about the no people in the lunch table part. No social life is a nono

Saxsky, I think you are way overloaded academically and that this hurts your chances more than no H French or no Calc BC in the 9th grade. Find someone to help and find a couple hours... teach tennis for the Special Olympics, help illiterate adults learn to read, clean the church floors on Saturdays, DO SOMETHING TO TAKE YOURSELF... OUT OF YOURSELF.

I can't imagine waking up at age 40, 50, 60... and saying, "Wow. That was a lot of studying I did when I was 13." You should be boating, skating, dancing, building, and studying too. There is so much out there to live, don't spend your youth worrying about French! Heck, go to France as an exchange student next year and you'll not need H French!
