a problem with grammar

I am could not figure out why option E is wrong
underline portion in inside the brackets.

(Unlike 20 years ago, baseball players in today's world ) may declare themselves free agents and encourage bids from teams in both leagues.

D>[correct answer] Unlike there counter parts 20 years ago, baseball players today

E> Unlike there counter parts 20 years ago, today's baseball players

I think this problem is parallelism. Because the first phrase uses “20 years ago” as an chronological adverb, in the second phrases should also use “today” as an adverb → Choice D seems better
If the first phrase is “20 years ago’s there counter”, the second should be choice E.
Hope this help!
