A Puzzle

Who to choose to write letters of rec? I have my ideas but I'd like a little input from others. Thanks :)

I'll rank each teacher from 1-10 how well they know me, 10 being he/she is my father/mother, and 1 = complete stranger.

Chemistry: 6. This teacher was adviser for my chemistry club and has a pretty good impression of me. Knows I'm good at chemistry/science. I'm questioning how good of a writer of letters of rec he is but otherwise I think he knows me fairly well and would write a positive letter.

Spanish: 5. There were many, many students who did better than me in the class, but I feel this teacher has a high opinion of me because I tried hard, participated very often, and asked questions to improve myself even though Spanish isn't my strong suit. However this may be that this teacher is nice in general.

English: 7. This teacher is supposedly a very good writer of letters of rec. I participate very frequently, to the point that I have a feeling this teacher considers me slightly annoying. However I am sure that this teacher has a high opinion of my capabilities/interests/goals.

Math: 8. I talk a lot to and am very friendly with this teacher. I often come outside of class to say hello or to talk about various math things (Euler's Identity, brain teasers, the TI-89 i just got). Compared to others I do extremely well in this class and this teacher has a very high opinion of my skills.

Any ideas? I mostly need 2 Letters of rec and i am interested in science/technology/math/engineering. Are there any factors (besides how well they know me) I should consider when choosing which teachers to ask?

i think that math and english would be the best.

lol, even though the english teacher might think you are annoying, i really doubt s/he would put that on their rec. but you can still ask if s/he would be able to write you a good rec letter.

maybe you could ask the chem one to do a supplementary rec, but i dont think its necessary.

spanish doesnt seem like the best choice.

good luck!

Thanks! anyone else have an opinion?

definitely math.

definitely NOT spanish.

english and chemistry is a close call, I'd probably go with Chemistry.

i agree math is for sure. toss up between chem and eng. your call there.

Math, definately. If you think that your english teacher knows you better than your chemistry teacher, then choose your english teacher.

math definitely. english because u said u participate a lot and that he will write a good letter...don't worry I also annoy my teachers to death with my "participation" LOL

Many schools require that the two teachers be from different areas of study, right? One for humanities/social studies and one for math/science. So, chemistry v english is not a close call if math is a definite.

thanks for all the help, appreciate it
