When you get accepted into a college they can reject you when they find out that your grades are dropping, but how do they find out your grades are dropping. Since they will only know your grades up to the point where you send in your transcript.
Colleges will want to see your final high school transcript after you graduate from high school. They will use it to verify that you completed the self-reported courses that you said you were in-progress in, and check to see that your grades are high enough. Some colleges give specific grade and/or GPA thresholds you need to meet, while others more vaguely say that they expect you to maintain your academic performance. In the latter case, you are probably safe if (a) you complete the same courses you reported previously, (b) did not get any D or F grades, and © got a GPA at least as high as what you had at application time.
Note that admission offers are explicitly conditional on the above items that colleges will use your final high school transcript to verify.
yep. Your school sends your final grades to whatever college you are planning to attend. Logical, right?
Ramifications for senioritus.
Yes, colleges do get your final HS transcript to look at grades and be sure you graduated. Every acceptance letter I see has an out for a college if the accepted student does not hold up their standard of work. A small drop in grades is OK. One poster here tells people to “avoid Ds, Fs and felonies”. I encouraged my kids to keep their second semester senior year grades in the B range to avoid any possible issues.
