When they say you should open/hold doors for girls, does that mean:

A) Go in first, and reach back to hold the door open as she comes in.

B) Hold the door open, like a doorman, and let her go in first.

The latter. The exception is in revolving doors, when the gentleman goes first so that he exerts the greatest force against a stopped door.

Yes, like a doorman. But I thought chivalry was dead?:)

it's never to late to revive chivalry :)

i always hold the door :)

Good for you Pyar!

Guess you guys don't know the type of girls I know... =P

I never hold the door for anyone :D .

In an ideal community, girls hold open the door for guys and vice versa. Guys hold open the door for guys. Girls hold open the door for girls. Professors hold open the door for students and vice versa. Basically, human beings holding open the door for other human beings, regardless of silly classifications.

Guys who hold open the door for girls- and do not do so for guys or do not allow the girls to do the same for them- have a dangerous misunderstanding of proper etiquette, are blinded by tradition, and are usually desperate (why else do they put the girl on a pedestal?). This practice (and the mentality behind it) is cheesy, laughable and not to mention, dangerous.

when i said i hold the door, i meant that i hold it for everyone and let others hold it for me :D

forget holding the door, I try closing the door quickly if I see someone I don't like
...I'm a bitter, angry person

i just think it's really nice when a guy holds the door open for me, and i do hold the door open for other people, especially when they are carrying a bunch of stuff. a lot of the guys i know will make sure that they get to the door first. it's just something they insist on doing. personally, i hate when i hear girls saying, "I CAPABLE OF OPENING THE DOOR MYSELF A$$HOLE!", which i've heard more times than you'd think. just say thank you.

I thought that was called "random acts of kindness" not chivalry.

I love it when guys hold the door open for me. It's so sweet! I think it is more "chivalrous" to hold the door open like a doorman, but either way it's really nice!

^, they/we probably just want to get in your pants.

^ I don't think so. Maybe I'm wrong, but I like to think there are still some geniunely good guys out there.

i think if they are trying to get into my pants, then holding the door open is a really weak way of trying to achieve that goal. i'm pretty sure i've never jumped a guy for holding the door open. maybe some day if he's just that hot i would, but so far, most of the guys who hold open the door are guys i've known for years, and they haven't made a move yet.

yeeeesh, I wasn't that serious.

I've been jumped for holding the door open for a girl. Well, more like tackled. Truth be told, she wasn't really paying any attention to the door at all. =P

^hahahahahahah
