Is it true that you can transfer out of a community college into a regular four-year college or university after a semester?

If so what would be the drawbacks etc?

It’s definitely true. People do it all the time. The draw backs really depend on your high school GPA. If it’s really low, after only one semester you won’t be able to get into anywhere much better than you would have right out of high school.

The thing is, most colleges will base the main part of their admission decision on your high school GPA until you hit sophomore status (about 30 credits). If your high school GPA is low, I would really recommend staying a full year at community college if you want to get into a better school.

If you absolutely hate community college (like I do) and you want to get those 30 credits in fast I would recommend summer school and taking alot of credit hours your first semester. It will be tough, but really worth it in the end.
