I am an international student deferred by Cornell so I need to write a letter to the admission office to show my interest and newest accomplishment. It is suggested that I should contact with the regional admission representative directly, but I can't find a specific person to whom I can send a letter because under the " Contact an Admissions Representative" section of the website there is only an e-mail address which is used to answer " International and US Abroad Questions". This is very confusing. Should I send the letter to the address no matter what or I can contact with someone else?

You don’t need to write a letter to “show your interests and newest accomplishments”.
I asked an admissions officer if doing that helped at all, and she said they just toss those mails out anyway.
She specifically said that admissions officers only consider the things on your actual application, so you’re honestly just wasting your time.

Seriously? I thought a lot of people do this kind of thing and it is suggested by many people online.

The Dean of Medicine’s wife used to be on the admissions board.
When I had dinner with his family since I’m pretty close with their son (who also goes to Cornell), that conversation came up and she said it doesn’t matter at all.
What they see is the application, and the application only.

Wulawula- I have also heard it’s a good idea to send updates to your application. Maybe it varies among schools and admission officers. Do more research before you take one person’s advice.

As with so many things at Cornell, I think this varies by college. If you are applying to one of the smaller colleges, then I think they would welcome hearing from you as long as you have something new to communicate. As in, have you won any awards since you applied ED, or sat for the SAT again, or had a new job, etc. If so, then I would contact someone.

Is this the contact address you referenced?

Can you locate the admission address for your college or program?

Thank you for the info.
@Renomamma
Thanks. I will surely do more research.
@CT1417
I applied to CALS and I do have something new to report including a new SAT score.
And yes that is the address I referenced.
Do you mean that I can contact with CALS directly? Sorry if I misunderstand the last sentence.

I would start here.

[For More Information | College of Agriculture and Life Sciences](http://cals.cornell.edu/admissions/contact/)

Perhaps if you called, someone would give you the name/email address of an actual person in Ag admissions, but if not, you can try emailing your update here:

I am not convinced of the importance of the regional reps at Cornell, but it may be an entirely different story for international applicants. Best of luck!
