So I am an out-of-state transfer applicant and I am going to submit my application soon. My university takes semester, so I won't know my GPA of this semester (first semester of sophomore year) until the middle of December (the deadline of application is Nov.30). Do I need to update my GPA after I submit the application? Or does UC request that? I really don't want them to know my GPA of this semester.... Thank you so much!

You will report Fall grades and state your planned schedule on a Transfer Update, which is due by January 31.

That goes in the January update, yes. UC will want your fall grades and you spring/winter plans.

aww. so sad to know that…

Why?

OP said in her initial post that she doesn’t want them to know her GPA this semester… you can connect the dots on why.

@Cynthiadong Any unreported grades will matter later too. When acceptances come out you receive terms and conditions, which specifies requirements you must meet in your Spring (and sometimes winter) semester. Most UCs will tell you not to fail any classes, some will want good grades in specific classes, most will tell you to keep your overall GPA above a certain threshold, etc. All your grades are important, whether you get them before or after applications are due.

I’m asking why, specifically, the OP doesn’t want the UCs to know her (grades, missing a class, going under part time, dropping classes, etc). Maybe its a minor problem that can be fixed. We can’t help anyone if we “connect the dots” and assume things.

Thanks guys!! Don’t worry I don’t have any bad records. I just feel like my overall GPA would be affected by my grade this semester because I am probably going to get several A minus

That’s not so bad! I wouldn’t worry too much about it. If needed, you can explain any special circumstances that affected your grades this semester in the update.

You’ve got to be kidding me.

^ Be positive and helpful or don’t post. This is a stressful time, she gets to freak out if she wants to.

Hey luckie1367, i really appreciate you for saying this I am considering to change my bio class to no credit, because I might get a bad score (A- or B+) on this class, and I don’t want it to hurt my GPA. But bio/phys class is UC’s basic requirement. So I wonder if UC accepts no credit class?

I am not really sure. If it is a major prereq I think it has to be taken for a letter grade. I’m not sure if breadth requirements also have to be for a letter grade…
