This may be a silly question but my D is taking a summer course online and I am wondering why we still need to pay OOS fees. It seems to me that when using the internet for course study there really are no borders. I dont think the online courses should less expensive than on campus but paying the OOS fee I think is a bit much. It is not a hybrid course. I am not saying it is wrong as much as I would like to understand it. Can someone explain it to me?

Because none of your taxes have gone to help fund the school and because your daughter is less likely than a student with strong family ties in the area to take the education acquired at that school and use it to work and pay taxes in that state.

^^^what he said.

At our CC the online classes are actualy more expensive (about 50% more per credit hour) than live classes. Plus often require an access code that costs more $$s on top of the book. Never have figured that one out.

OK that makes sense, I have checked our local University and that is not the case but perhaps we are not the norm

Policies regarding online course costs are all over the map. Depends on the college. A community college not too far from us charges the same for their online courses regardless of where the student lives. In fact, my son takes an occasional course there, versus our local in-district community college, because he can get the same course there substantially cheaper.
