A question about Pass/No Pass

So I'm already a student at UCSB, but I know some other students, and even Alumni, browse around here, so I was wondering if someone could tell me if I'm putting myself in danger here:

I added a class for this quarter (Fall 2010) and soon realized I just wasn't going to be able to get a good grade in it. I have never gotten a C or below before in my life, and I wasn't going to let this class be the first. I don't need it for my major, and it was just going to be an elective for my minor (meaning I can just take some other class to fulfill the requirement). I also don't need the units (I will have PLENTY by the time I graduate).
So I took it Pass/No Pass (because I missed the drop deadline). Am I putting myself at risk for anything if I just stop going to the class altogether and get a No Pass? If my professor notices I stopped showing up will something be done to make me change it back to a letter grade and deal with the consequences?
Or is it okay for me to deliberately fail the class, since I expect a No Pass anyway?
I don't want to stop showing up for classes and stop doing the reading and then realize I have screwed myself over.

P/NP option is bad enough (in terms Grad school).
Now you deliberately want to NP?
You will have to retake the class.
Your Professor can not affect your grading option, I think.

Why not just put average effort into the class and pass it?

here are some rules about repeating classes:
[Letters & Science Academic Advising :: Repeating Courses](http://www.advising.ltsc.ucsb.edu/grades/repeat.php)

I don’t need to retake the class. I don’t need that particular class at all.
I’m also not planning on attending grad school.
Do you still advise against it?
