Can I send the commonapp to several schools, and then re-send it (like a month later) to a different set of schools while keeping everything intact? (without creating a new app or copy/pasting anything)

Will things like teacher recommendations and basically everything I put in the app including essays remain the same and even editable for the new schools?

Flyingllama,

Yes! That is one of the great things about the Common App - you can submit it to additional schools at any time. When you add a new college to your My Colleges list, you’ll just have to answer the questions for that college on the Future Plans page, assign the requisite number of teachers on the School Forms page, then go to the Signature page to submit it to the new college. Your counselor’s forms will be automatically submitted to the new college when you submit the application, as will the teacher recommendations from the teachers you assign to the new college.

If you need to edit the information in your application before submitting to additional colleges you’ll need to create an alternate version of your app. It will copy everything to a new application where you’ll be able to edit anything in the app before submitting it again. For specific instructions on creating an alternate version, go to the Instructions page in the application.

Good luck!

Thank you! that sounds very easy, I love the Common Application

this was great info. but can you edit/completely rewrite your common app essay after you’ve already sent in an application for, let’s say, X school ED?

Yes. Creating an alternate application allows you to go back over every question, if you want to. You can upload new essays, change your extracurriculars, etc. After applying to my EA school, I had to add some stuff and edit my essay, and it took all of 2 minutes. If you apply to a lot of schools, the longest part will be the supplements (which you have to do for every school that asks for one).

how do you do the alternate application?
