A Question about RSI

Are you allowed to commute daily to and from RSI if you live close, or do you have to board?

everything is free...

Well its not a matter of the cost. I just live close to MIT and would prefer to commute daily.

Part of the idea is that RSI forms a community that lives and has fun together, so CEE probably wouldn't look too highly upon it. No one is doing that this year, and at least one person lives in the boston area.

I'm pretty sure you have to live on campus. Unless there is some medical reason you need to stay at home, you probably can't sleep there. But trust me, you definitely want to stay at MIT. RSI life really only starts at 11 PM.

lol what do they do? solve math puzzles?

You wouldn't not want to be part of the whole experience, after classes is a key part of this amazing experience.

Have been you to RSI? What's it like, and how hard is it to get in?

It's geat. You'll meet really smart hardworkers from all over. You'll learn a ton. It's very competitive to get in. I felt dumb in that group and I'm top 5% at one of the most competitive schools in the Country.

Suze, do you go to Andover or Exeter? Since you mention with a 3.8 you are top 5%? My son has a friend in Andover who has 5.25/6 and he was barely making top 10%. How many APs have you taken there? Are you attending RSI this year?

Where did I mention a 3.8? That's not my GPA. As you know that would be pretty pathetic at either Andover (where I go) or Exeter, where I think their GPA goes to 11.

RSI is not only for math, so no, we don't sit and solve math puzzles. However, the math kids do do a lot of extra problems and stuff outside of their project for fun I guess and since it helps your brain get exercise.

RSI has definitely been the best experience of my life. It's amazing to see all these great people and their projects and learn so much. Also, RSI will probably be where you experience the most freedom you ever have had. They ask very little of you and there is only one main rule: Don't show up dead. Other than that, you are allowed to come and go as you please, and stay up as late as you want (right now, it is 4:30 AM and I am up working on my paper which is due on Tuesday...eek!).

Anyway, RSI is also a lot of work and it is competitive to get in. Everyone should apply though since you never know if you'll make it or not.

Ummmm, do you live in a police state? RSI just treats you as a responsible person.

What a coincidence, I go to Andover too! But I never heard that exeter had a GPA that went up to 11.

What do you think got you into RSI?

Who knows? Math/science accopmplisments and being a girl really helps!

Siemens Regional here.

I don't live in a police state but my parents don't usually let me leave the house at 1 AM to go chairing...

is it important to complete the sat or psat to get into rsi?

i have taken some advanced math classes at my local college and am wondering if that would be enough.

suze I know a few people from RSI '04. Where you there, or did you attend this year?

what's RSI?

lol Research Science Institute.
