What is teaching certification exactly? Let's say I wanted to be a high school biology teacher. What would I major in? I'm confused if it's that you major in biology, and then take other teaching classes, or that you major in secondary education and minor in bio or something

Teacher certification requirements vary from state to state so you have to check out the information for any particular state through their state education department. In general, if you plan to teach at the middle school, junior high or high school level, you usually get your degree in the content area, i.e. biology, and then take the required education courses, student teach in your subject area, and then eventually, at least in New York, obtain a MA degree in education. If you are interested in primary education you usually get your degree in education with a minor in a content area. In new York you must fulfill these requirements before obtaining your permanent certification to be a teacher.
