A Question for STUDENTS OF FSU

Hi! I am a southern florida senior and I am seriously considering attending FSU. I wanted to talk to some FSU students to get the real information about the college. I am an artsy kind of girl. I love independent films, going to shows, fashion, shopping, nightlife, and stuff like that just to give an idea of what kind of person I am like. Would I fit in at FSU or would I be completely lost? Thanks in advance for your imput!!!!

Well, I'm a graduate of FSU; hope that's close.

You'd fit in fine. There are scads of kids who love the same things. The shopping may not be as diverse as south Florida, though.

As to fashion, it's very haute college. Flip-flops, torn jeans, sometimes even PJs in class per my daughter.

Oh yeah - flip-flops with socks in the winter. The kids think of all the latest trends!

;^ )

haha, well thank you for replying! Did you like FSU when you attended it? Was there anything you hated about it? Any regrets?

Go Gaters!

FSU represents one of the best, most fun of times for me. The change of seasons it has compared to south Florida is beautiful. College is nothing like high school. It's easy to make new friends and discuss for hours virtually any subject - and kids do just that. We had some outstanding fun in the dorm. Toilet paper and a bit of water make a fine missile (this could be a guy thing).

Spring is amazing in Tallahassee. The azaleas bloom everywhere, and all is intense color. It's hard to concentrate. Plus, the spring sun brings the girls out to sun bathe on Landis Green (this could also be a guy thing). Winter was also great. We had a couple inches of snow one year and everyone made snowmen (well, we tried anyway).

The air is charged with creativity, energy and is intellectually stimulating. All of a sudden everyone is smart, motivated and you realize there are some extremely gifted people out there. I liked to walk through the Music building to hear the practices, for example. Even the campus newspaper, the Florida Flambeau, was energized and radical. They had clever jokes and puns that always made it fun to read.

Be careful, though, if a professor says 'we're now going to go into a bit more depth and integration' or words like this. The work is about to become very challenging - it's not high school. You'll have to work much harder than you ever thought you could. Exams were tough.

The worst part was not having much money or a car. Also, one tends to squander some excellent academic opportunities just to go and do typical young adult stuff (e.g. dating, swimming in the sinks, going to Mule Day, football games and so on).

Hope this gives you an idea.

yes thanks a lot! you description was very helpful.

I neglected to say one thing that may be important to you.

There are plenty of kids who are preppy - the 'popped collar' crew. Not too sure what this means, but my daughter regards them thus.

UF beats FSU in everything except for music big deal. UF ROCKS MY SOCKS!

I'm currently a sophomore (going to be a junior in the spring) at FSU. I'm also from South Florida and believe me, it took quite a while for me to become accustomed to FSU. Tallahassee is COMPLETELY, and UTTERLY, different from my hometown, Miami. But once you get to know the area and etc., you actually learn to love the town. lol

By your description, you sound somewhat like myself. That being said, let me just say that almost everyday there is something going on in one of the clubs around here. (I barely go to the clubs though, my major doesn't allow time for that. lol) As for fashion/shopping... there are only 2 malls in the city and the variation between the two aren't that great. Enough said; however, the students here do seem to go out of their way to appear "trendy." There are also no cliques or anything like that here. FSU is overall a very warm and welcoming university.

I'm in vacation currently and find myself missing Tallahassee. Comes to show you how much I've grown to love that town. lol I considered other Florida schools when I visited them my senior year of high school, and found myself at home in FSU. Good luck with your studies and if you have anymore questions about FSU, let me know! =)

thank you so much! i am really considering going there, so maybe i'll see you sometime! haha. i still have to apply and everything, hopefully that goes well!

have fun on your vacation and at FSU!
