A question I have had...

Hi,

I am a junior now looking to apply to college and I have run into a dilemma. Since sophomore year I have attended IMSA (Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy). Now that I have been there for 1.5 years I have noticed that, due to harder classes/competition, my grades are not nearly as high as they would have been at my original high school.

So, I was wondering what all of your opinions were on the matter. Does going to a school like IMSA help or hurt my chances for getting into college? Its not like I would ever regret going to IMSA as it is a much better school and I love the challenge, but this question has been bugging me for awhile now.

Thanks.

Well, if you are highly ranked, then it won’t matter as much. Plus admissions officers take the diffculty of schools into consideration.

Compare a valedictorian from the #1 high school and the valedictorian from the #314159 high school in America.

You’d value the first choice more than the second choice, and I assume that admission officers do the same.

Only on CC do people use pi as a random number instead of just randomly hitting their keyboards…

@ OP: Don’t worry; colleges take difficulty of the school into account. It definitely looks good that you go to such a competitive school, and standardized tests will also help you prove your ability compared to applicants from other schools.

"Only on CC do people use pi as a random number instead of just randomly hitting their keyboards… "

^only on CC do they notice that the other person used pi LOL.

CC makes me smile hahaa.

and to the OP, i agree with the others - colleges take school difficulty into great consideration

“Well, if you are highly ranked, then it won’t matter as much.”

FWIW, IMSA doesn’t rank.
