A question on taking community college classes during summer

Do colleges like students taking community college classes over the summer and think that you are exploring interest or exploring career choices, or do they just think that you are taking random courses for no point during the summer? (ie Administration of Justice for me, while most probably I am going into business/econ major)

Quick response appreciated! Thx a lot!

(sorry phrasing of the question may be bad as it is time for me to sleep...i will be happy to clarify things tommorow)

Do colleges like students taking community college classes? I would say not only because they want you to take those classes at their school, because they want your money. Other than that, taking community college classes can’t really work against you unless you are receiving bad grades in them. What grade are you in? If you are a junior, this will be similar to a dual-enrollment class, in terms of how they would view it (and they regard DE classes with the same rigors as AP classes), and would work for you. They won’t simply jump to conclusions, assuming that you’re doing it for this reason or for that. They just know you took it, and you got this grade. If you’re a senior, you’re already in your school.

It can help if only to improve your weighted G.P.A. score. It depends on how your school/state does it. Some high schools give ‘bonus’ weighting to college level courses. That said, life is short, spend your summer doing things that really interest you (including ‘down time’).

If the course interests you, go for it. If not, the “impressiveness” isn’t worth missing beach trips and pool time and whatever else you do in the summer.

Many private schools won’t transfer credit from summer community college courses - it’s a little easier to get credit for summer courses given at major universities. Still, checking ahead of time with your school is crucial.

@ctyankee really some colleges count CC courses at 5.0 (i only knew UC would)
@EngineerHead I am a junior right now
@katliamom I am taking the class less of credit than of GPA/apps/competition/fun…i figure that Administration of Justice has little to do with business (maybe business law) and is probably not a required course

Thank you for everyone’s quick reply to my first (altho i have joined for quite a long time) ever post on CC …first of MANY posts :slight_smile: (I got a feeling)…i really appreciate it…good luck on college stuff (to those who are applying to college/going to/in college)
