A Question on Waitlists

So even though there is one more Orientation session, all the first years and transfers have had a chance to enroll for classes. Does anyone know when the "open" spaces on waitlisted classes might actually become open? I am currently #4/20 in a class that fits 120, but only has 114 enrolled. If everyone has registered, why are they still reserved?

Thanks!

According to one of the OLs, this is because the first 5 people on the waitlist haven’t accepted/been offered their spots off the waitlist. I’m #5 on the waitlist for French, and I’m pretty sure that I’m guaranteed a spot

I understand, but why are they still closed? I’m high enough on the waitlist to get one of these spots too, but I’m not sure why they aren’t already available. Is it possible that professors hold spots for individual students and those spots won’t become available at all?

Figured it out (I think). It looks like people are dropping, but instead of the spaces becoming available to everyone, they’re just held and the waitlist is automatically updated overnight. I guess I should have watched those SIS videos! :)
