A question regarding college visits and open house days

I am going to be a junior next year in high school so I think it's better for me to think about colleges now. I saw many people on this forum have had college visits before, but I have a question about visiting. Do you just go to the college and they will give you a free tour? or do you have to apply or make an appointment first? Where and how can I find the colleges that have visitation days or open house days? Thanks.

Depends on the school. Some require you to make a reservation beforehand, others you just walk in. They have most of the info about visiting on their individual websites.

Web sites are a great source of information. Some will say “click here to make an appointment for a tour”. Others will say “contact admissions at <a href="mailto:apply@bigschool.com”>apply@bigschool.com" for an interview (note: fake e-mail address, I just made it up). Most schools will show their open house days on their web site. Always call the specific school for…um…specifics!

It all depends on the school. Some require reservations for tours, others do not. Regardless of the school, you do not need to apply for admission to the school prior to arranging a tour.

All tours are free. If a school tries to charge you for a tour, call the cops.

You’re a junior next year? Good to think about this now! Plan your visits during your junior year, and good luck to you!

Yeah each school’s website has information. Some will request that you make a reservation, but for others you can just show up.

Many schools have an admissions information session, followed by a tour, twice a day.
