a question

i just found out that my direct consolidation loan was sold and transferred to NELNET on 2/1.

i just want to know if the other members have experienced a similar thing these last couple of months?

note to any FAA's: will the data in NSLDS stay the same or will it be different? can you explain what had happened? is it good news or bad news for the borrower?

of course i am assuming that the loans did not die and gone to heaven.....

The data in NSLDS will stay the same. It is just the servicer that is changing. If you had ACS, the move is a good one, in my opinion. It’s simply a transfer - ACS lost the ability to service loans, so their loans are being transferred to other servicers.

Just make sure you check to see that your loan payments have been made. One of our kids is caught in this transfer, we think, and her loan payment record is completely screwed up.

yes, my servicer was ACS, and thanks for the info, kelsmom.

you too thumper1!

Our kid got an email response saying that her loan was being transferred, and that when the process was complete she would receive contact info.

You know…you would think that these loan servicers would communicate changes that are GOING to take place rather than communicate after the fact. How hard would it have been to send an email to all simply stating that this was taking place?

Some servicers may have sent out a heads-up email. Each does things differently. I received an email a couple weeks ago from one servicer, letting me know that I had a certain number of students whose ACS loans were going to be transferred to them - it was really helpful to know. If you ever get an email asking you to rate the service of your servicer, be sure to complete it!
