So, I am applying ED to Lehigh and they require CSS and so do other schools that I might RD if I get declined from lehigh. The thing is, I'm not sure as to which colleges I want to apply to RD. So I was wondering if I can just pay for Lehigh now and pay for other colleges later when I make up my mind.

Yes, you can. You will have to use estimated numbers for the PROFILE for Lehigh since it is not the end of the year yet. You can correct the PROFILE with the actual numbers early next year, if you need to submit it to RD schools. It makes sense to do it this way since there is a cost incurred for PROFILE. Do have your other school apps ready to go in case you are deferred from Lehigh. Some kids go into a funk when that happens and the timing being in the midst of holiday season makes it difficult to complete apps. Good luck on your ED situation!

Of course. Go to the site to see how to order additional reports.

It would be easier and cheaper if you submit CSS profile to all schools at the same time, however, it is not wise to submit it to a school that you end up not applying as that would definitely waste the money. You may update the CSS profile and then send to other schools later. Note that there is an application fee and a per school charge each time.

How would it be cheaper? Whether it’s submitted to one school now and four schools later, or five schools now, the cost will be the same.

When applying ED, it makes sense to hold off on the RD applications and “trimmings” (CSS Profile, test scores, application fees) until one gets the ED response. As i stated above, I recommend having everything ready to go if there is a deferral since there often is not much time to get those RD apps out with the holidays right there and deadlines as early as 12/31 with the ED answers coming in mid December. But, the fees per school can really add up, so it’s nice to have saved that money to put towards the ED deposits.

@cptofthehouse So, will the CSS website allow me to send reports later because I think I remember seeing that it said I cannot but Im not 100% sure.

@MiddKid86 You are right. I just checked the payment confirmation, the $9 application fee was charged only once. I thought I paid for that each time. Anyway, it is easier to file at the same time as one would not need to check the asset balance of various accounts again.

Yes, you can send the report out later along with the per school fee as you do so.

I disagree with this in the case of ED/EA. The numbers aren’t final for most until taxes are filed, and updating the Profile is a PITA - it has to be done manually, or on paper, for most schools.

I sent the Profile to 2 schools that needed it now, the rest will go when I can change the estimated numbers to actual official ones in Jan-Feb. I’ll only have to correct the couple I sent this week that way, not all of them.

I take your point on assets, but for income it’s easier to wait. IMO.

I would not worry about the income estimate as long as it is not a wild guess. It would be hard for self employed though. Otherwise, it is not too difficult to estimate now or in a couple months from the pay checks. They will verify the number with tax transcript, FAFSA or IDOC anyway. While asset is for the current standing. One may need to dig through many accounts to calculate the total amount that it would likely to be more en effort than income estimate. If the income estimate before year end is a bit off, they can’t hold against you as they know this is not a final number.
