A Quick Question!!

I see many posts that is saying like "I applied UM Novemver" or "I got my acceptance letter November..." I thought deadline for UM is Feb. 1. Isn't it? I'm a high school junior and I thought I can send my application around early January... is it too late? Is there any benefits for applying early??? When did you send the application letter???

UM is a rolling school, and they project that their deadline is February 1st... however there is such thing as a priority deadline, which most people send it by to be considered for major scholarships and such. also, it is easier to be among the first applicants because there is a larger quota for them to fill... it's like a first come, first served basis. your chances in late january will be a LOT smaller than your chances in september.

tokudas,

Resident students tend to apply earlier, so that's part of what you're hearing.

You can apply in January, sure. But as mik87 and others have noted in otehr threads, you're going to get most favorable consideration if you apply earlier.

If at the end of the admitting season, they can admit only 30 more people, and they've got 60 people who are all about equal in their grades, scores, what they bring to campus....umich will most likely admit the 30 who applied earliest.

thank you!! so... when is the earliest month you can send the application?

I think late august - september......

i think anything before end of november, u will be ok. But why not apply early and give urself the best shot??? I was thinking i had till feb. 1 too at first, till i found cc. I sent in my app on november 16th. heard back in january. good luck next year!

It all depends on when they finish making changes to the application and publish it. That usually happens in early August, I think.

Thanks!! I think I will apply around end of the October then!!

Tokudas, why even wait until the end of October? If you have your SAT/ACT out of the way before then, apply as early as possible. I mean, if you apply in September, you would have your answer by October. If you are accepted, you can concentrate on reaches rather than having to worry about applying to matches and safeties.

I am not sure an early app will mean that the student will have an answer by October. I suppose a truly outstanding candidate might hear that early, but in recent years Michigan hasn't done the bulk of its mass admits until mid Ocotber, or even further along in fall.

I think teneacious_j got acceptance by the end of october and he/she applied by september

One of our high school's students applied at the end of august and heard in mid-october.

n e ways, u should apply as early as possible if u already know u r gonna apply there. give urself to know yes/no, and to know soon so u can move on to other schools. Or if Michigan is ur top choice, u can focus on enjoying senior year stress free. Either way, applying early is beneficial. TRUST ME!

Until someone says they heard in September, I am sticking by my skepticism. If the Office of Admissions is sending out many offers before October, that would be news to many on campus.
