How many foreigner language classes does a student need to take in community colleges for UC transfer? 5 units per class.

thanks

I believe (2 classes, same language) or 2 semesters in community college is equal to 2 years in high school. Correct me if I'm wrong....

i think its 3 years in high school, not 2.

"Proficiency equivalent to two years of high school courses in the same language. Not required of students transferring to CSU."

JetForcegeminix - has got it down

Thanks for the info

yeah I was gonna say, it's def. not 3 because i only have 2 and I'm fine.

Two college semesters for UC, three semesters if you applied/plan to apply to USC.

3 high school years for ucb! thats where i saw it.

3 high school years for UCB, are you talking about when you're applying as a freshman?, because that is not the case for transfers.

6.
Language Other than English *
Proficiency equivalent to two years of high school courses in the same language.

That's for all UC's, UCB is no different for IGETC certification. I have 2 years in high school C or better and that satisfies the requirements for every UC.

i was referring to haas requirements, and not cc. that's whta it said on my update, either 2 semesters at college or 3 years at high school. for haas.

so idk, im just stating what i saw and recall..

I used to think it was 3 years, but for transfers I am preety sure you only need 2.

Foreign Language Requirement. (Only 1 Required)

Option 1: 3 years of one high school foreign language: specify language

Option 2: 2nd semester college level foreign language: specify language

Option 3: Foreign Language Exam

from the berkeley transfer app update. thats where i got it from.

3 years is only for haas.

For UC Davis admissions Language Other than English is not required for admissions. However, Language courses might be required for graduation if the requirement isn't already met through IGETC.

Pretty sure IGETC only requires 5 semester units of foreign language.

However, anything beyond that may be required depending on the school/major you're applying for.

"Two college semesters for UC"

this isn't always true.
looking at the IGETC Worksheet from SBCC, all of the following first level courses satisfy the UC requirement: ASL 101, Arabic 101, Chinese 101, French 101, German 101, Hebrew 101, Italian 101, Japanese 101, Latin 101, Spanish 101.

however, at pierce it's: ASL 2, French 2, Italian 2, Japanese 2, and Spanish 2.

i can't explain this, but having been scared last fall, having taken Hebrew 101, that i didn't meet the requirement, i made a bunch of a calls and feel confident that i'm fine.

anyone know why this is? that, say, the first level (101) courses satisfy the requirement from SBCC while you need the second level (2) from Pierce, and what appear to be the majority of other schools..?
