Hi All,
(Darn! I discovered CC pretty late- but going by the discussions, I'd say its pretty helpful!)

As an applicant from India, of course you get pushed towards the Ivies... I mean pretty much everyone crinkles their ( rather long ) nose when you mention any other college which is not in the top 30 or so...

Of course, i know every Indian student will put in a top10 application, but what other colleges are you willing to apply to?? Have you thought what 'other' colleges might just suit you??

Basically, I am the same old kinda ind. student... great school scores , 2240 sat score. simply overloaded with EC's and a possibly eclectic choice of activities.. Nevertheless, I probably will have to apply to an Ivy at least.. But I wouldn't mind breaking away from the Ivy-is-god clout, and I was wondering if any of you here think alike??

^ Great to know that!. So which other colleges are you looking for??? Is there any particular reason why you like these colleges?? ( would be glad to know)!

Anyway, many people here are applying to a wide range of schools. So strictly speaking, nobody here treats Ivies-as-gods, although due respect is given.

^ Ah, not Indian enough?? Well, then I should have said overloaded with EC’s that hold no/ less importance in front of the admissions committee… I mean, heck, we are all involved in a whole lot of activities, and most of them wouldn’t possibly carry any weight. That dosen’t lessen what we have done now, does it??

…And as for other colleges… well, yeah, I noticed that open attitude out here and must say, am glad I joined up… I have thought of a lot of other colleges, Rensselaer, U Chic, Colgate, WUSTL and possibly a few more liberal arts colleges… honestly, still scouting for opinion… Would be glad if you share your views mate!

Ummm so you’re still “scouting for opinion”?? It’s a bit late in the season to be worrying over your college list - or are you the class of '16??

^ Nopes I am very much the class of '15!.. I do have a college list ready, have done my ED and EA already… The thing is I am open to changes, and a different perspective always reinforces your opinion!
You must admit that it’s always difficult to get a clear view of a college and a system that you have no idea about… Lets just say its a sort of self-assurance to know, hell, yes, people just like me too are probably battling out the ‘winds of lost directions’!..
