<p>I just wanted to remind you EDers that a deferral isn't the end of the world. My son got one in 2005 and was eventually accepted RD. He was also acceped RD to many other wonderful schools that he would have been happy to attend, including Duke. So don't despair if you get a deferral or a rejection, there are many other wonderful schools waiting for you. Just put as much effort into their applications as you did into Columbia's. <p>Yep, I've heard many times that being a deferred candidate from the ED round is better than just applying RD itself.
That way, they still know that how much you love Columbia.</p>
<p>So even if you think there's no chance you'll get accepted ED round, it won't do any harm later on. It can only help, most likely.</p>

<p>I think this is fair. I haven't seen the numbers, but the deferral letter says that deferred kids get accepted at the same rate as RD applicants. But not that it's less than 10%, still.</p>
