Most of the time, they recommend having a junior year teacher write your recommendation. I think a glowing sophomore year recommendation is better than a lukewarm junior year recommendation.

If you had a great relationship with him/her, I don't see anything at all wrong with that.

If you've maintained a friendship with this teacher, I'd say go for it. Or even if you've just popped your head in once in a while to say hi, or if you're an active participant in one of his/her clubs, it would be okay. Otherwise, it looks like you were just using him/her -- at least that's how I';d percieve it if I were a teacher.

i'm only a junior, but i LOVE my sophomore year APUSH teacher. i had her one semester of my freshman year for history as well, and i plan on being her student assistant next year. anyway, i totally am going to have her write recommendations for me. however, i make sure i drop in to say hi and chat with her once every few weeks, in addition to other things. so my situation may be a bit different than yours. but either way i'd say go for it, as long as they know you well and like you (as mine does :) )

^yeah, if you still talk to and see the teacher it's different. especially since you'll be her assistant, that will help.
