A rejected soul

Hey guys

So I got rejected this morning on early decision 1 by Bucknell and I’m now focusing more on my regular decision schools and I wanna apply to some women’s schools since I’m a brown woman asking for aid and usually those schools award aid to students like me. I was wondering where I should apply early decision 2 at. I am leaning towards mount holyoke:

Stats:SAT not out yet but I guess maybe at 1200ish
Class rank 2/105
Good recoms
Ecas: scientific research for 3 years at a local hospital, started an initiative to help rural women on menstrual hygiene issues , 300+ hours of community service with children who have autism, art and manga illustrations which I sold to raise money for refugee awareness.
First generation college kids
Major:biology

Where should i apply ed 2 at ?

I’m sorry for the Bucknell disappointment.

Answering these questions will allow posters to better help you.

What is your unweighted GPA?
Senior year math class and level?
Number of APs and test scores?
Where else have you applied so far? Have you been accepted anywhere yet?
What can/will your family pay per year of college?
Do you have a HS GC helping you and what do they recommend?
No test scores yet? Did you apply test optional to Bucknell?
College preferences—size, geography, setting, etc.

Just saw on your other threads that you are an international student seeking financial aid. That changes things considerably.

You should consider most US colleges as reaches. Do you have schools, including a safety, that you can attend in your own country?

Hey !yeah there’s a lot of schools that’s i can easily attend here. But my parents really want me to attend college in the US and tbh my dad is willing to pay for me.

My school does not calculate GPA.
My senior year results were good and I took British A levels.
I applied to Wooster , Rhodes and Earlham.
Earlham is willing to accept me if I pay more, so I’m keeping that as a safety.
Wooster and Rhodes are yet to lemme know their decisions.
I prefer to pay around 15kUSD per year but my fam go to like 23kUSD per year
I’m mostly leaning towards LACs now, and just colleges which are not strictly religious like with strong religious affiliations and more accepting of brown peeps I guess.

Agnes Scott College is a great fit for you; I currently go there (it was safety/target school) and it’s going pretty well! You’d qualify for huge merit money there ($25k+) and the student body and school is very accepting of transfer students

Edit: Biology is a popular major at Agnes and being able to cross register at Georgia Tech is a huge advantage for STEM women. There’s a hall just for science majors that you can dorm in, events on campus for women and minorities in STEM, and an honor society dedicated to research and collaboration amongst students.

HEy!
I have Agnes Scott on my list but I haven’t found much about them other than what the website advertises. How good are opportunities for internships and undergraduate research at Agnes ? How caring are the professor ?
Thanks

Top-notch opportunities. Small classes. Lots of interaction.

My Holyoke provides need based financial aid to qualified international students.

They may also focus on your coursework and ECs and life story more than the boards. I would take a look.

It’s also beautiful. Idyllic actually.

I have heard Spellman and some school called Meredith are good girls only colleges. I am sorry I don’t know where they are. A benefit I can see is that they are safer and smaller.

Spelman is an elite HBCU; Meredith, Sweet Briar, Hollins are all small, women’s only colleges. Agnes Scott is another great women’s college. Mount HOlyoke is another elite women’s college.

Spelman is notoriously horrible when it comes to aid.

I don’t have clear advice about your chances for admission, but I’d guess that Mt Holyoke would be a great fit for you. They have a LOT of international students and are known for their great biology department. (I was there back in the late 80’s, so it’s been awhile, but I had an amazing experience as a biology major.)

ENDed up applying to holyoke
Chose not to submit my sat score
I am submitting the optional writing supplement. I know two people from my batch who got into Holyoke last night year so I have high hopes.

I’m so sorry about missing your reply. I don’t frequent CC as much. Hope that your journey goes well and happy holidays!!

The professors are very focused on the students and are easy to get in touch with due to the small population of the school. My professors (anecdotally) have been accommodating during the pandemic and were usually able to help with anything needed last year before the switch to online learning happened.

There are a lot of internship opportunities posted at the college’s private FB group, the professors themselves via email list and word of mouth, monthly workshops, internship fairs, and volunteer opportunities. I’m a sophomore, so I haven’t navigated much of the internship realm, but there is a lot of funding and academic credit opportunities for students searching and having been accepted for internships.

The OP hasn’t been back since May. Closing thread.
