A Request for an Invauable Service - Walking Distances

How long does it take to get from one building to another? This will be useful for all future Berkeley undergrads trying to figure out their schedule with back to back classes...

Dwinelle
VLS
Wheeler
Wurster
Giannini
Stanley
Morgan
Haas
LeConte
North Gate
Davis
Soda
Evans

Or, if you've ever been on campus, looking at a map usually gives you a good feel for how long it'll take.

I can tell you that from Unit 1 to Soda, it will take about 13 minutes of super fast speed walking and Soda is really really uphill. From unit 1 to evans, I'd say about 10 minutes. Unit 1 to Haas, is about 8-9 minues. Dont want to do more...that should give you a feel anyway.

And BTW you better be walking fast to get those times.

First of all, you learn to walk faster once you're at Berkeley. I'm from a suburb so I never do any walking. But when I got to Berkeley, I learned to walk faster. Mostly b/c for 8am classes, I wanted to wake up later.. Not only do you walk faster, you also find shortcuts and such.

It is pretty possible to walk in 10 min from East end of campus to West end of campus. You'll have to take into account which floor your classroom is on and such. Going from West to East is harder because it is uphill. The East end (Pimentel, Evans, Stanley, Haas, etc.) are all higher up than the West side (Tolman, RSF, etc.)

Going from say Dwinelle to North Gate is kind of hard to do in 10 min b/c there is a pretty big hill along the way.

I was wondering how hard it is to walk from Dwinelle to Pimentel and back, both in 10 minutes.

dwinelle to pimentel will take approx 10 min if you speedwalk. it's uphill and it depends on where your class in dwinelle is (what floor, etc.)

pimentel to dwinelle is walkable in less than 10 minutes, downhill is easier.

hmm, are there buses for transportation?

i live in unit 2 :'(

Get a bike and any on-campus destination will be five minutes or less from another, down- or up-hill travel. Walking from one end of campus to another could easily take 20 minutes.

yeh i have a back to back class from haas to tolman.
thank god for the person who invited the bicycle

haas and tolman isn't walkable in 10 min.

with bicycles, you have to lock and unlock which takes awhile.

i know.... its impossible to walk in 10mins...
i gotta practice locking my bike in 30 secs

how bad is stanley to hearst annex? is it doable in 10 mins?

Pimentel to Mulford?

What about second floor Lewis to second floor Dwinelle-- possible in 10 minutes?

That's really hard to do even though it's downhill.

haha by the time the bus showed up you'd already be late for class....

until 2 isn't that far at all; 10 minutes to dwinelle for sure; like 15 to north side

How do I know what floor my class is on?
155 DWINELLE. Would that be first floor?

It's on Level D (Map of Level D)
It's thru the 'main-looking' entrance across from Wheeler and Sather Gate.

Don't get lost... there are four ground floors and classrooms 100's and 4000's are on Level D as well.

haha i had no idea that dwinelle's layout was so confusing they had to make a map for it.

lol I was surprised too... the site also has a folklore section about why the building is so confusing
