a rug or actual carpeting?

So, my roommate just emailed me asking if i wanted a rug or actual carpeting. He has both. Which should we have? would it be worth it to go through the trouble of installing carpeting on move in day? i was wondering if one option is much more preferable than the other.

Errr…what? You planning on installing carpet into a dorm? (Installing implies nailing it down and whatnot).

i’ve never heard of such blasphemy (installing carpet)

I think by “installing carpet” the OP just means actually putting a piece of carpet down over the entire room. I doubt the OP thinks you can actually nail down carpet in a dorm. For a dorm, you can just get a big piece of carpet and set it down. That’s what I have. It’s actually like a huge rug, because it still has finished edges on (not rough edges as a cut piece of carpet would) it like a rug.

Or just leave the floor however it is? Damn it’s not worth the effort for a room you have to move out of in 9 months. Apartment yes. Dorm no.

i wudnt gt a carepet bc 1 time my doggie maed a bigg mess wif his pee its vry haedrrd 2 clean up so u no jst b caerfu l if ur guna haev a carpet bc its hard2 clean

Yeah, i meant putting carpet down and not actually nailing it down. Was wondering if thats just too much effort and if we should just go with the rug.

In my apartment I put down outdoor carpet. It’s thin and lightweight. Also it’s cheap enough to throw away…so I don’t care about spilling on it.

We put a large carpet in the room that covered both our spaces. Worked well, and felt better than stepping on dust-gathering and cold floors. We also had a mini vacuum that we used on the carpet occasionally, and a swiffer sweeper for the non-carpeted flooring.

Well worth it.
