This happens during orientation for those of us not attending an ArtSci weekend. What's the likelihood of not getting into various popular classes?

some classes already have waiting lists....

It depends on the class. Almost all of the popular classes are already full. Being in the artschi weekend will help get into more classes, albeit minimally as all current students register the yearb efore. General 'freshman' classes will all have room, although maybe not at the time you might want.

Waiting for classes in future semesters isn't a big deal. If you need a class for a major, and are following the general guidlines, you'll always be able to get in. No one has ever had to stay an extra year since they couldn't get the classes they wanted. But you might have to show some flexiblity; i.e. taking your second favorite classes instead of the ones you want to take the most.

But like I said, compared to other colleges, no one really complains at class size and getting in.
