HOOKS:

I am of Hispanic descent.

I will not be applying for financial aid (?).

Yeah, UCSC is definitely a safety school for you.

The brutal honesty is that as a minority in computer science, you’ll get a boost in priority. Not to mention UCSC has been looking to bring in more out of state students. Safety school indeed.

It only seems natural that they would want the high OOS tuition.
Thanks for the input.

The hooks aren’t actually hooks for a UC. Need blind schools and affirmative action is illegal in the state of California. They won’t see whether you’re applying for aid or not and they are not allowed to base a decision on your ethnicity alone. The OOS pay is a pull, but not a guarantee.

I wouldn’t consider it a safety school for you.

Don’t out of staters have to have better credentials than those in state? I think I’ve seen a ton of posts with higher stats for in staters…
