A SAT math question from real test!

this one is really weird.
A number is added to 9 less than twice the number. If the result is 180, what is the number?

The answer is 63.....Can anyone explain this? Thx~_~

yes so if a number is added to 9 less than twice the number its 180
so the equation is X+2X-9=180
3X-9=180
3X+189
X=63

is like The number added something so that it becomes ‘9 less than twice the number’?
or the number plus ‘9 less than twice the number’?

it’s 9 less so you would subtract it after you double the number so if you keep this in mind you know the answer won’t change regardless.
A number is added to 9 less than twice the number so
x+2x-9 OR 2x-9+x
