A Senior Member's Ode to College Confidential

Yes! So many congrats!

CC had helped me immensely in the TASP process, and through it I've met some other truly awsome people.

yale sucks

yale sucks.

yale sucks..

.yale sucks

My S was in a similar situation last year and he is now a happy first year at UVA. One other thing we "pushed"...the Robert Byrd Scholarship. The counselor didn't know much about it because no one had ever asked before and according to him, "No one was ever qualified before..." Anyhow, after some prompting, my S got the application submitted and received $1500 a year renewable. My advice to parents and students: Read, read, read...whether it's on CC or elsewhere..Take the initiative and you can do it.

Congratulations drummerdude!

I can completely relate with your truly inspirational story. I go to a high school that has absolutely clueless guidance counselors...our drug rate and pregnancy rate is the highest in the county, about 90% of the graduating class only shoot for in-state colleges, and I believe I am the only person in my class taking an SAT II because like you, the first time I heard about them was here on CC. CC has truly pushed me to actually research the colleges and just really shoot for the highest because it's actually attainable. I had always thought that going to a school like Harvard or Yale was a thing for the valedictorians but CC has really proven this wrong. These schools look for so much more than 2400s on the SAT and CC has really opened my eyes to the realities and opportunities...
I'm also thankful to everyone who helps me on this forum and I hope that I will continue gaining knowledge through CC even as I begin the college admissions process this year.

Again, congratulations!

It's odd that my school is almost identical to yours - the situation is sort of uncanny. Fun read.

drummerdude- even though you credit CC (and I'm sure CC is deserving), even more credit is due to you for taking the ball and running with it! I'm sure you have a bright future ahead, because you know what questions to ask, and how to find the answers. Thank you for sharing your story. Congrats!

Great post! And congratulations!

congratulations!!
help me out tho....ziggy method?? huh?

Congrats!!! I'm very glad that everything worked out, and that you were able to find such a great community here @ CC. Best of luck to you at Yale!

wow that was really nice.
i think i speak for most of us seniors in saying that CC has in one way or another helped me get into my top choice.

congratulations!

columbiaplease: I think that refers to some of the math training posts by Xiggi. If I remember correctly, Xiggi posted some howto's on solving SAT questions. Search for posts by a senior member called Xiggi.

Great post dd, good luck at Yale.

drummerdude,

Others can point you to the doors, but only you can walk through them. And that's what you did!

There surely are a lot of "doors" to this process.

You've internalized this two-year experience very deeply, and gained much meaning from it. Possibly you'll find ways in the near and far future to seek equity for others, even as you gain tools for personal success.

Congratimations. :) Go from strength to strength!!

Great story. But what is the "Ziggy method" for taking tests that you found so useful?

It's the Xiggi method, there's a link to it posted 2 posts before yours.

drummerdude,

I feel the same way as you, without my accidental stumble upon collegeconfidential.com, I would not be where I am in terms of knowledge about the admissions process, studying methods, etc.

I owe my acceptance to UCLA and Berkeley to CC.

Because of this site I got into my dream school of UCLA. Thank you so much everyone for your nice and critical comments that made me stronger and become a better person and student.
