A Separate Peace

Who has read this book? What do you think?

I LOVED to book; Gene and Phineas were definitely lovers. :)

yeah i read it in 9th grade and i really liked it too, one of my favs i’ve read throughout hs

Yeah its a really good book! Definitely one of my favorites

microoooooo!!!

Read it in 9th grade as well. One of the only ones in my class who actually enjoyed it. The dynamics of their friendship were so interesting.

Read it, greatly enjoyed it. And I agree. They definitely had a little something-something going on. Makes me wonder about Knowles and Vidal…But it was a very good book. I enjoyed it a lot. I read it in one straight day, haha

Read it in 8th grade and loved it or well still love it.

I think everyone who’s ever read that book likes it, other than stupid kids who think it’s somehow “cool” to dislike and disregard every bit of literature they’ve ever read in school.

A Separate Peace is brilliant; one of the best books I’ve ever read.

I can see how a girl could dislike it, though. It’s definitely catered to guys a little bit, so the first part of this post only applies to guys haha.

I read it sophomore year, but thought about it when I saw it on my bookshelf. I just wanted to make sure everyone liked it. :P

I’m a female, and I liked it. But I could see how it is catered to males

Guys: My friend and I were talking about the AP Lit exam, and mentioned this book. What was the name of the guy who went AWOL and killed himself?

I don’t remember anyone committing suicide, but are you thinking of Leper?

It only makes sense if Gene was a repressed homosexual who didn’t want to acknowledge his affection for Phineas. My teacher refused to accept that they were anything more than friends, which made the whole thing farcical. A good read nonetheless.

I wouldn’t be so quick on this. I know many fans of literature who disliked it for various reasons.
