sUMMER READING???

I read it in my english class...
it's one of the greatest books I have read in a while about boarding school

I hate you BBall. lol
I know, this thread isnt very popular!
I guess people are sticking with the Gossip Girl series over this amazing american classic. (Sigh)
lol

It's pretty good. I liked it a lot. I ended up buying it after reading it for a school assignment.

I seem to remember that the adolescent boy finds out that his father is gay and has to learn to accept his lifestyle, n'cest pas?

ROFLWAFFLES

Wth....Ummm, ok....I don't recall that but sure dude.

I absolutely loved that book.
I read it so long ago, I think I will revisit it this year.

There is no gay father...but I have this really crazy theory....
I think Phineas and Gene were in love. lol

Wait scratch JUST love.
They were MADLY IN LOVE. LOL
That's what I think.
I also think some of the other boys were at least bisexual.

Hmmm....never read this book. Finishing up "Grapes of Wrath" which is the required summer reading for all of 9th graders at Andover. Never having read it before, thought it would be fun to read it in solidarity with niece.

Aussie13, I agree. :)

It was still good nonetheless.

I posted twice..

Lol!
Finally some who agrees with me! lol
That book was sooo good.

yeah this book is absolutely amazing. just ..... i think about it a lot.
It doesn't get the recognition it deserves really.

I chose to read this book for a project in AP lit-- I made the whole class want to read it :)

True literary excellence. Remarkably well written, really.

I am really glad we got to choose our books that year for our projects and the librarian suggested that one to me. I loved it. It was a great book.

You might find the movie they made in the 70's of it online if you loved the book. It wasn't as good but still.

There were two movies made. The older version from the 70's was filmed on the Exeter campus and used students as extras. The later version was made for HBO and is less authentic. Both are tolerable adaptations of the book but as usual miss the mark a bit.

Brooklynguy--Grapes of Wrath--one of my all time favs! I devoured Steinbeck the summer after my sophomore year. Ok, so I wasn't a barrel of laughs!
