I was very excited about my acceptance to Berkeley but then I just realize a serious problem....

I completed 9th, 10th, and 1st term of 11th grade in Korea. So I'm suppose to send an official transcript from that school to Berkeley. I did it 3-4 weeks ago. The status turned to "Received-in review" very quickly. I've kept checking everyday and yet it never changes to the "Final" status. I was very worry about that and I requested an unofficial transcript from the school in Korea and have them mailed it to me. I just got it yesterday. So here's the problem:

I double check the transcript and the UC application. And I realized that for some reason, I forgot to put "Geography" (9th grade) and "Computer & Information Technology" (10th grade) on the application. I looked at the UC website and the above courses are counted as a-g classes.

Since my acceptance is conditional and my transcript does not match up with the application, does it mean I will get rescinded?

If, in the worst scenario, I got rescinded, are there anything I can do in order to stay at Cal?

Vincent

Unless you got horrible grades in those courses, it probably won’t matter. I mean, if you forgot to mention classes that you took and did well in, how could that possibly have given you an unfair advantage in admissions?

However, you should contact them as soon as possible and inform them of this.

I think you will be okay. The UC’s only get mad if you put down a class on your application when it turns out that you didn’t take that class as it does not appear on your transcript. However, since you took the classes but just forgot to put them in your application, you’ll be fine. The UC’s only ask for your a-g courses to see if you challenged yourself with the right classes, and since you got into the school without even having to list those classes in your ap, you’ll be fine.

I don’t think that you will necessarily get rescinded. You got accepted and this means that you have satisfied the a-g requirements. Problem might occur if you received a bad grade from the computer class since that might change your UC GPA significantly. However, I doubt they would rescind you if you received an A and just forgot to put it on you app. In fact, that would just make you application stronger so there should be no problem. Yet, you should contact your UCB advisor (you can find the email when you log in to your UCB acceptance page) immediately to discuss your situation.

Yes, I suspect this is not going to be any kind of problem at all. Tell them that had credit for extra courses that you didn’t list on the application. They accepted you with the level of work you reported - you actually did more than you claimed - that is not a problem.

If you had a bad grade in the 10th grade class, then the UC GPA from the application might have been a bit high, but if it was a good grade like all the others, it will not have made any difference at all.

I would tell them just to be safe.

The situations where they rescind admission are when someone claims to have taken more classes than they actually did, or lists them as honors when they were normal classes, or withdraws from some senior year classes - when the work in the application is too high compared to the real work of the student. Your situation is the opposite - you claimed too little work, but actually did more than you said.

Thanks for your reply!

But what about I got Cs in both classes? I assume that my 9th grade geography class doesn’t really matter because UCs are not counting GPA from freshman courses. But what about my 10th grade computer class?

If I contact the campus now, wouldn’t it be too late? Or should I just wait and see if I “got lucky” that the officer does not recognize that?

Also, usually how long does it take for Berkeley to update the transcript status?

@artinka

Where can you find the contact for UCB advisor? Do you mean the email under “My contacts”?

So you got a C and didn’t report it…

I know it’s a biggggg problem:(

I don’t want to speculate… but its weird how two of your worst grades (I’m assuming they’re probably the two worst) somehow was “left off” of your application. It is probably too late to let them know (obviously, since you already sent in the transcript).

No, these two classes weren’t the worst. I got Ds in both Korean History and Art in my 9th grade but I did report those classes. Starting from my junior year, I’m getting all As.

Did you double/triple check your application before submitting?

wow…a student with 2 Cs and more than 2 Ds got accepted to Cal?
Those lousy admissions people really need to wear glasses. What has happened to the reputation of cal accepting so many … freshman and -_- transfers?

That’s because I had a heart surgery between my 2nd term of freshman year and 1st term of sophomore year. After I recovered, I got As in all classes(Junior year:4.73GPA & 2350 SAT). I guess Cal accepted me because of my huge improvement, and most importantly, my essays.

I guess I’ll call them on Monday. So who should I contact? The undergrad admission office or the advisor?

If they already have the transcript, they can verify that you did not report two courses. I don’t think there is an actual need to call them anymore.

yes, I think you should use the one under “my contacts”. I used it actually to ask one question and got answer in only about three days. I believe it is always better to contact them and explain things rather than just wait. They are going to find out that there was an inconsistency and then it might seem as if you just hoped they won’t notice i.e. moral problem i.e. admission rescinded. Now you still have chance. Good luck.
